She said that of the properties they looked at before buying, this barn was in the best shape, but they soon realized it needed significant work. The couple hired Waddell Engineering, structural engineers to plan the restoration, working with Post Structures who did the drawings. Dynamic Blds handled the renovations, redoing the flooring, replacing the roof and building a bank wall for the barn. The structure is a quintessential Ontario bank barn, many of which are rapidly disappearing due to age and disrepair. “This is a barn that’s going to last now,” said Knowles. While the barn is certainly the pièce de résistance, the property itself sets the tone with breathtaking views overlooking a beautiful pond, with lush greenery and meadows. “It just kind of reveals itself,” said Knowles, explaining that as you drive up to the site the beautiful features slowly appear. “It’s magical.” Hartley agrees. After their ceremony under the willow, she and her husband went up the hill for photos.
