CONTINUED CANOE AND KAYAK SUCCESS FOR BEN DAVIES
Pour se qualifier pour les championnats provinciaux de canoë et de kayak, Ben Davies de Rockland a pris part à la régate de canoë-kayak des Championnats U15 de la Division est de l’Ontario au Rideau Canoe Club à Ottawa. La compétition était ouverte aux sept clubs qui composent la Division est de l’Ontario. Davies a gagné les médailles de bronze pour la course 1000 mètres (kayak 1 homme), où il a eu le troisième meilleur temps et un record personnel de 4 minutes 33 secondes, et la médaille de bronze pour le 1000 mètres (kayak 4 hommes). —photo fournie
Rockland’s Ben Davies is yet again in the limelight after qualifying for the Provincial 2018 Flat Water Canoe and Kayak Championships in Welland, Ontario on August 18 and 19. To qualify for the Provincial Canoe and Kayak Championships, Davies took part in the Eastern Ontario Division (EOD) Cham- pionships U15 canoe and kayak regatta
at the Rideau Canoe Club in Ottawa. The competition was open to the seven clubs that make up the Eastern Ontario Division. Over two days of racing, Davies had six 1000-meter races in crews of one, two and four members. Davies took home the bronze medal for the K1-1000-meter (one- man kayak) race, where he had the third fastest time and a personal best time of
4 minutes 33 seconds. He also received the bronze medal for the K4-1000-meter (four-man kayak) race. Both bronze medal races were very fast and extremely close. Davies and his team took it to the wire and won by fractions of a second each time. Winning the two bronze medals and qua- lifying to race in the K4 and C4 1000-metres, C2 and K2 1000-metres and the C1 and K1
1000-metres at the Provincial 2018 Flat Water Canoe and Kayak Championships National Water Sports Centre was a very successful weekend for Davies. He is a long-time member of the Petrie Island Canoe Club (PICC) and all 15 PICC athletes who took part in last weekend’s regatta at the Rideau Canoe Club qualified for the Provincial Championships in Welland.
