Samuel Cardarelli, 33 years old, born and raised in Rockland, is the newest candidate as councillor for Clarence- Rockland’s Ward 1 of Rockland. Cardarelli has been a volunteer firefighter for the Clarence-Rockland Fire Department since 2015, is the president of the Clarence- Rockland Firefighters Association, was one of the founders of the «It’s Your Community» initiative and has been president of the Clarence Creek Adult Hockey League since 2014, amongst other activities. He mentioned that his priorities as councillor would include promoting the municipality’s economic development, seeking additional tax revenues, maintaining good services &/#3&'r#3*&'4 NEW EMERGENCY PLAN The City of Clarence-Rockland has a new official Emergency Plan for dealing with local disaster situations, like last year’s flooding of the Ottawa River, and also potential disaster situations. Council approved Bylaw 2018-116 during its August 13 session, making the 80-page document the official updated reference guide for city officials, volunteer groups, and others during an emergency scena- rio. The plan is subject to annual review and also regular “tabletop” exercises every year to make sure city officials, staff, and emergency services personnel are familiar with all procedures in the plan. – Gregg Chamberlain ARENA LOAN RENEWAL Clarence-Rockland council approved a bylaw for renewal of the municipal loan for the Clarence-Rockland Arena. The loan renewal is through TD Bank for $1,660,000 for a five-year term.
