Council approved Bylaw 2018-117, authorizing a contract during its Aug. 13 session. Contract value is $90,370, not including HST. The company was the successful of six bidders for the contract. Many of the major lines for Rockland’s underground mains date of the period from 1950 to 1960 nd are showing their age. La ville économi- sera environ 56 000 $ sur le montant compris dans le budget 2018 pour le projet. Le trottoir est du côté est de la rue et reliera le trottoir à l’entrée de l’École élémentaire publique Carrefour Jeunesse avec le trottoir à l’extrémité nord du boulevard Docteur Corbeil. – Gregg Chamberlain ENGLISH SCHOOL TRUSTEES CONFIRMED Sue Wilson was acclaimed for another term on the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario. The incumbent trustee was confirmed without any challengers after the end- of-July deadline for final nominations for the October civic election. Corina Parisien was acclaimed as the new Prescott-Russell trustee for the Upper Canada District School Board. point in voting if nothing changes anyway?’,” he said. “I feel people have been put to sleep with politics and I want to get them out of their political coma.” Veilleux reiterated the fact that if the people of Clarence-Rockland feel that Mayor Guy Desjardins has done a good job, then they will re-elect him. “If people feel they need a change, well now they have another option.”
Donald Veilleux is running for Mayor of the City of Clarence-Rockland, against incumbent Mayor Guy Desjardins. “The mayor of my city will be elected democratically and not by acclamation,” stated Veilleux. He explained that one of the main reasons he decided to throw his hat in the ring is to uphold the democratic practice – he believes the people should always be given a choice and that no elected official should be put in office for lack of another option. “Half the Council was elected by acclama- tion,” said Veilleux. “It defeats the purpose.” Four of the eight Clarence-Rockland council- lors were, in fact, elected by acclamation, including Mario Zanth, André J. Lalonde, Carl Grimard and Christian Simard. Veilleux is also running because he hopes to bring fresh ideas and goals to the city. “I really like Clarence-Rockland, but I don’t think it is going in the right direction,” he said. Veilleux has lived in Clarence-Rockland for almost 14 years now. “It is a bedroom community, there is very little industry and it has now just become a place to rest your hat.” Veilleux’s main goal is to get as many people involved in politics and in their city. He wants to spend money in the community to attract people to Clarence-Rockland, which will in turn bring money into the pockets of the businesses. “From what I hear,

Laviolette. Au sommet de sa liste de priorités si élu : s’assurer que les membres du conseil travaillent plus en collaboration et souligner l’importance de promouvoir les infrastruc- tures déjà en place dans la municipalité. « Je sais qu’en ce moment, il y a des choses qui ne se passent pas bien et il y a de la tension au conseil, a déclaré M. Laviolette. Je veux profiter de mon expérience pour ramener l’harmonie au sein du conseil. » « Mon intention est de profiter des infrastructures qu’on a dans la municipa- lité – la route 17 d’Alfred, la rivière des Outaouais – deux endroits qu’il faut exploiter au maximum, a-t-il précisé. Il y a du potentiel extraordinaire dans notre région. Il faut juste se mettre dans la tête que c’est possible. » M. Laviolette a aussi souligné l’impor- tance de faire des plans futurs à long terme plutôt que de simplement improviser au fur et à mesure.
