Chernobyl 30 Years Later... There are many natural
disasters throughout the world. Chernobyl is just one example of a man-made disaster. How is this a man-made disaster? It was caused by an accidental level 7 nuclear explosion that occured April 26, 1986 at 1:23 am. The Russian government was trying to find a cleaner way to produce energy instead of fossil fuels like oil and coal. The explosion caused 590,000 people to lose their lives due to radiation. To this day children are still affected by the radiation with some still being born with birth defects. Some adults still struggle with P.T.S.D.. Even though it occurred 30 years ago, the affects can still be felt today which is why no one is allowed to live there. Infact, Chernobyl will not be safe for another 20,000 years.
What is Nuclear Energy? 4 Energy released during nuclear fisson or fusion especially when used to generate electricity. Nuclear fission is the process in which a large nucleus splits into two smaller nuclei with the release of energy. In other words, fission is the process in which a nucleus is divided into two or more fragments, and neutrons and energy are released. Nuclear fusion is the process by which multiple nuclei join together to form a heavier nucleus.
What is Radiation? 4 Left over energy rays that cause sickness and death. Nuclear radiation refers to the particles and photons emitted during reactions that involve the nucleus of an atom. What is P.T.S.D.? 4 Post Traumatic Stress Disorder- feeling fear of the event even after the event has happened.
Affect vs Effect In the case of affect vs effect the words are very similar sounding but their meanings are a world of difference. Affect is used to represent an action which causes a reaction. Effect however is the result of the reaction (such as side-effects). by William Stanley / Team Newsies
