§ 5 Signs of a successfully operated TGRA

1. Fully developed regulatory documents : Many times our governing documents are outdated, an successful TGRA reviews annually and makes adequate changes. 2. Fully Developed Training Program For All Positions in the TGRA : There are changes happening all of the time, be cutting edge but more important be knowledgeable. 3. A Developed Regulatory Management Plan : Having vision is great, but putting that vision in writing is key to making sure your plan is deployed and executed. 4. Stable Funding : Understanding how you help the Tribe protect revenue is important. Take it a step further and design your Commission to identify how you not only protect revenue but how you can aid in revenue generation by implementing good MICS and internal TGRA processes. 5. Use of Tools : Don’t buy it is you wont use it. If you buy it have a plan to use it!

§ Many times the TGRA is so busy “”putting our fires” you inadvertently leave some gaps in the governing documents.

o Keep it a priority to update the Tribal governing documents (consider updating them aid in protecting the Tribal assets but also increasing revenue.) 1. Tribal Rules and Regulations 2. Tribal Internal Controls 3. Tribal Processes 4. Require management to provide you a workable timeframe for approval when they are implementing something that is new and has not been previously approved by the TRGA
