PROVIDE-ENCE I met a man the other day who had got some of the modern notions about providence. He said, “Of course every thing is managed by law; there cannot be any particular providence; it is all under law.” I said to the man, “Have you any children?” “Oh, yes; half a dozen.” “Wlell, do you take care of them?” You cannot think how the man looked at me. He said, “Do you think I am a brute?” “No, but I ask you, do you take care of them?” “Of course I do; I should be a brute if I did not.” “Well, my difficulty is this. You told me a little while ago that there could not be any providing or taking care, because there were fixed laws. How do you man age it?” ' “Well,” he said, “how could I manage it if I had not fixed laws?” “You think it helps you to have fixed laws?” “I think it does on the whole.” “Yet you think it hinders God. You can take care of your children, though you have fixed laws; and really you speak as if you thought God was not as wise as you are.” He was silent; he said no more. Now I want you to see that God’s providence is provide-ence; it is looking forward with a Father’s wisdom and a Father’s love, and so He takes care. Those who have come to Christ know themselves spiritually, gloriously, to be the children of God.—S. Coley.
694 Saul would be looking for him, (Ananias) to come. Ananias had heard how Saul had persecuted the Christians and even killed them, and he was afraid to go to Saul. Then the Lord told Ananias what had happened, and Ananias obeyed at once. As Ananias entered the house, he walked up and laid his hands on Saul, and called him brother Saul, because he was now a believer in Jesus. Then An anias told Saul that the Lord Jesus, who appeared unto him as a bright light on the way, had sent him, that he (Saul) might receive his sight, and be filled with God’s Holy Spirit. Just as soon as God’s Spirit came into Saul’s heart, his sight came back again, and right away Saul arose and was baptized. After* he had eaten some food, he was strengthened, and he stayed with some of the other people who loved Jesus. How different Saul treats the Christians now since he loved Jesus. We can not help but love Jesus when we know Him, and we will be just like Saul, we will want to work for Jesus. Our memory verse is whaf Saul said to Jesus after he was saved. “What shall I do, Lord?” Suggest things children can: do for Him. Closing Prayer. —Dear Lord Jesus, may we truly love thee, and want to work for thee every day. w ot BLACKBOARD SKETCHES By Ern Hansell July 17th.
