FAMILIES AS EQUAL PARTNERS IN LEARNING

ESTABLISH A ROUTINE FOR HOMEWORK AND STUDY TIME:

COMMUNICATE WITH TEACHERS:

Attend Learner Review Meetings and stay in touch with your child ’ s teachers. Don ’ t hesitate to ask for advice on how you can further support your child ’ s learning at home.

Create consistent study schedules, ensuring access to a quiet, well - lit space free from distractions. Encourage assignments to be completed on time with regular reviews of learning. Support with homework when needed, whilst also encouraging independence.

INTEGRATE LEARNING INTO EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES:

STAY INFORMED ABOUT YOUR CHILD ’ S CURRICULUM:

Use everyday situations as learning opportunities. E.g., involve your child in cooking to practice measurements, or discuss current events to improve critical thinking. Encourage problem - solving and creativity by engaging in activities like puzzles, building projects, or science experiments at home.

Familiarise yourself with what your child is learning at school. Each day ask what they are learning. Regularly check Learning Tasks on Compass to stay informed regarding work completion, course requirements and ongoing assessment of student learning.

MODEL A POSITIVE ATTITUDE TOWARD LEARNING:

SET GOALS AND CELEBRATE ACHIEVEMENTS:

Help your child set and stay focused on realistic academic goals. Celebrate successes, whether big or small, to reinforce the value of hard work and perseverance.

Demonstrate a positive attitude toward education. Avoid negative talk about school or difficult subjects. Instead, encourage perseverance and a growth mindset, where challenges are seen as opportunities to learn.

ENCOURAGE A LOVE OF READING:

Promote reading by providing a variety of books, magazines, and educational materials at home. Set aside time for family reading and discuss the stories or information you ’ ve read together.
