TEACHING & LEARNING At The Lakes South Morang College, we make learning engaging, purposeful and enjoyable. We maintain a strong focus on literacy and numeracy development for all students. In the early years, students build strong foundations in language through a systematic phonics approach. As they progress through their schooling, this focus expands to include reading comprehension, critical thinking and deep engagement with texts. Across the school, students are immersed in hands-on, rich learning experiences that develop number awareness, mathematical reasoning and problem-solving capabilities. We also support the development of contemporary technology capabilities, fostering creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and innovation through the purposeful use of 21st century digital technologies. TRANSITION Transition is an important stage in a child’s education, and we value parents and carers as active partners throughout this journey. It begins with a positive and supportive move from kindergarten to school, helping young learners build confidence, curiosity and a strong foundation for learning, while feeling safe, connected and ready to form friendships. As students progress through Primary school, we continue to support them in preparing for the next stage. Our Year 5/6 Step Up Program helps students become familiar with the Secondary environment and expectations, building confidence and easing the transition. We also provide an Intraschool Transition Program before the end of Term 4, allowing students to experience the routines and expectations of their next year level. In the final week, Meet the Teacher Day gives students time in their new classroom with their new teacher, supporting a smooth and confident start to the school year.
