Festival Day

The 2015 Festival Day literally began with a bang as canisters exploded across the Assembly Hall filling the air with clouds of coloured butterfly confetti.

The Headmaster Mr Leese, dressed as a courtier complete with white stockings and wig, cut the orange ribbon officially opening the day and the Festival began. First up were the Court Jesters whose quick wit and cheeky improvisations kept the boys entertained during their fast-paced 45-minute session. Boys willingly took part and the actors delighted in the boisterous response from the audience. Each House had a different theme which most of the boys had creatively interpreted. School House were clowns, Richards

had an orange theme, Harper chose Star Wars, Jacobs became bogans, Flower’s dressed as an old College rugby team, Condell’s were basketballers, Julius were world leaders, Somes became country club members, Rolleston became very familiar construction workers and Corfe were superheroes. The interhouse debate with the moot “This House believes Walt Disney has done more good for mankind than Shakespeare” was won by Richards with Angus Dysart-Paul named best speaker. Harper House won the finals of the interhouse basketball.

Activities on Upper were the mechanical bull, the gladiator fights and bungy sprint, where boys raced to place a marker before being pulled back by the bungy. The zorbs proved to be extremely popular, although the zorb soccer proved to be chaotic. However everyone enjoyed the experience of the freedom of rolling around inside the balls and crashing into each other. The student versus staff debate was once again a spirited affair. The moot was “This House believes that Christ’s College should provide student parking on the Quad in 2016”, with the staff
