Wills Wynn Thomas A passion for numbers has led Wills (Year 10) to having two papers published in mathematical journals. His first was after doing some work on fibonacci numbers, which are made by adding together the last two numbers in a sequence. Wills explored what happens if you graph these in a certain way. Working with the then Head of Department Dr Martin Griffiths, Wills developed a computer program to solve the problem. He wrote a paper which was published in the Fibonnaci Quarterly. His second paper on a modification of Pythagorean numbers was also published in a mathematical journal in the UK called Mathematics in Schools. Reid Edmond Reid Edmond (Year 12) was selected for the 2015 New Zealand Karate Team where he came second in the New Zealand Open fighting championship. He was also selected for the team in 2014. His achievements include first in the under-16 fighting at the Canterbury Championship; second in under-16 kata (sequence of moves) at the Southland Championships; first in open kata; first in under-19 fighting; second in under-19 kata at NZ Open Championships; first in open fighting: first in heavyweight under-16 fighting; third in under-16 kata at National Championships; first in under-16 fighting and first in under-16 kata. Reid has been learning karate since he was five and was introduced to the sport by his mother, who learns judo. William Habgood Year 13 student William has developed a system which was used for booking online tickets for this year’s senior production, Dr Faustus. This keeps college up to date with what other schools and ticketing agencies are doing. William used his experience from ticketing for other big events to get one up and running for College. He says Mr Chambers had explored the idea, but the costs were too high. William not only offered his services for the ticketing system free, but also set up a website for the production. He says it may look quite simple, but there is a considerable amount of work which goes on behind the scenes.
Entrepreneurial William also has set up a business designing websites.
