Matthew (Year 12) was selected as a member of the Canterbury Regional Debating team, which competed at the national competition this year. The team won two out of its seven debates, but the scores in each debate were very close. Matthew is also a member of the College A team which is having a successful debating season, including winning against King’s College. Henry Idiens Henry Idiens (Year 12) came 11th at the National Secondary Schools’ Triathlon Championships. He competed in the under-19 grade and produced the fifth fastest run of all competitors in the race. Luke Gellen and Ji Woo Kim Luke Gellen and Ji Woo Kim were selected to attend the Biology Olympiad Camp in April, two of only 23 students chosen from across the country and the only two from the South Island. Luke gained one of the top scores in the competition. The residential camp provided hands-on practical training to prepare students for the International Biology Olympiad and the students sat both theoretical and practical exams. The team to represent New Zealand was selected at this camp. The pair also had remarkable results in the International Young Physicists' Tournament at Canterbury University. With Josh Wensley as the third member, they won the bronze medal, finishing only a few points behind the winner and second position. Luke has now represented Christ’s College three times at the regional IYPT receiving Bronze, Gold (2014) and Silver (2013) awards. Jason Guan Jason Guan has been chosen for the training camp for the Chemistry Olympiad, one of 28. The top five will travel to the International Chemistry Olympiad. Angus Mossman Angus took part in the opening event for the Cricket World Cup, taking the lead role singing and playing the guitar in a 10-minute production. Angus admits he was really nervous before the event and spent several hours warming up his voice and rehearsing his lines. However, when the time finally arrived, he went on stage, started playing a game of cricket and celebs came out to join him, making it all really good fun.
