NSLHD staff and vollies recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours NSLHD clinicians and volunteers were recognised for their dedication to medicine and health in this year’s Queen’s Birthday honours. This year, of the 1,000 Australian recipients, NSLHD had seven clinicians and volunteers associated with the district’s services who received an award.
Each year the Birthday Honours are awarded as part of the Queen’s official birthday celebrations during the month of June.
The recipients are:
Professor Alan Cooper AM is head of the Dermatology department at RNSH. He was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his significant service to medicine.
Maureen Dillon OAM , of Manly, was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for her service to the community on the Northern Beaches. Since 2009 she was president of the Manly Hospital Auxiliary.
Professor Mary Chiarella AM sits on the NSLHD Board and was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to nursing and midwifery education and to healthcare standards.
Dr Richard Lee AM has had a long and distinguished career in intensive care medicine. Based at RNSH, Richard was made a Member of the Order of Australia for his significant services to intensive care medicine.
Professor Carolyn Sue AM is Director of Neurogenetics at RNSH and is the Director of the Kolling Institute of Medical Research. She was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant service to medicine, particularly to mitochondrial disease.
Dr Jennifer Kendrick AM is the Director of Prevocational Education and Training (DPET) and a GP within the GP Training Unit at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital. She was made a Member of the Order of Australia for her service to medicine and to medical education.
Dr Joan Castle OAM , of Collaroy Plateau, was awarded an OAM for her service to medicine. A former medical practitioner in private practice at Dee Why, Dr Castle was also an honorary consultant physician at Manly Hospital for 35 years and worked at the diabetes clinic at RNSH. She also established a diabetes clinic at Manly Hospital.
