Dear Club Members, It’s nearly Summer, and as I sit daydreaming about all the fun events we have to look forward to in the coming season, it got me thinking. We’ve been celebrating the four decades of Precious Moments. The first decade we honor “growing with love,” and the second we recognize “sharing the dream.” Just as I daydream about summertime, each of us has our own unique dreams for the future. Remember when you were a child? Perhaps you dreamed of being an astronaut or a superhero – much like one of my absolute favorite new figurines, Be Everything You Want To Be (featured on page 8). But then we become teenagers and maybe we dream of Friday night football, or acing a test, or who will be our date to the prom. Then comes adulthood, and we begin to dream of bigger things, and often our dreams become less focused on ourselves and more on those we love and care about. We dream about happiness for our children, fulfilling lives for our friends, and the ease of suffering for people around the world. Right now, my dream for you all is that you enjoy your Summer months doing all the things that bring you happiness, especially sharing your small gifts with others. Personally, I’m looking forward to welcoming many of you to the Precious Moments Chapel for the annual Family Reunion. I also look forward to soaking up some long sunny days making memories with my children. Whatever your dream may be, we are happy to be a part of it. A MESSAGE FROM PRECIOUS MOMENTS CREATOR, SamButcher
express, “For God So Loved” – and that is the character of God. He didn’t come here to condemn the world, to destroy all the people. He came to save all the people who were lost. That’s the character of the loving God. Sam says, “He loved the world. Yes, He loved the world. We are not talking about just the flowers, the trees, and the oceans. The world here means you and me. For God so loved you and me that He gave the greatest gift that could ever be given. He gave His only begotten Son so that whosoever – that means ‘you-so-ever’ and ‘me-so-ever’ – believeth in him will have one of the greatest gifts they could ever dream of: everlasting life. When I think of this and the many people I’ve met in my journey through life, I see so many that carry with them a broken heart, a burden sometimes that’s way too much for them to even carry. People who have lost a husband, a wife, divorce, someone on drugs… things that are dangerous and destroy people. I know, there’s an answer for these people, just like there was an answer to the woman in the Bible who was a sinner. The answer is to give your heart to the Lord Jesus because He and only He is the healer of broken hearts. “And this is what he says to all of us in Matthew 11:28-30. He says ‘Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.’ That is His message to you, and my message to you, because I felt that He called me to share it. Thank you so much and God bless you.” We appreciate these inspirational words from Sam Butcher and we hope you have enjoyed this special four-part series!
Samuel J. Butcher, the artist behind the Precious Moments collection, has been sharing his wit and wisdom with the world for more than 40 years now. During last year’s Family Reunion Event in Carthage, MO, he gave a speech that touched the hearts, minds, and souls of those in attendance. Over the past three issues of MOMENTS Magazine, we have been sharing with you a few of the highlights! Sam felt compelled to share “Four Things GodWants You to Know.” We have already talked about the first three things: that God is a God of mercy, that He is a God of wisdom, and that He is a God of the outcast and forgotten. The fourth, and possibly most important, is that He is a God of love. Sam recalls, “I remember one time when I met a man who worked for me at Jonathan & David. His name was Dieter Zelke. I consider that man to be one of the most spiritual people that I know, really a Godly man. He was born during the secondWorldWar in Berlin. He was able to escape, came to the United States, and he joined the Army here. While he was in the Army, he met a friend, a person who wanted to share the word of God with him.” One verse in particular struck Dieter in a special way. In fact, Dieter told Sam that when he saw that special verse he said, “The eyes of my understanding were crystal clear and I could understand every word that I read.” That verse was John 3:16, a verse familiar to many of us. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Sam also believes that it is a beautiful verse, but he encourages us to listen to the next one, John 3:17. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.”What Sam finds so very interesting is that these verses

P recious Moments CEO, Steve “Kos” Kosmalski is a man of the people! He encourages collectors, Club Members, and Precious Moments fans in general to pick his brain and offer their suggestions to make the collection the very best it can be. We thought we would share with you some of the questions he has been asked recently.
So far, what has been your biggest accomplishment as CEO of Precious Moments? After hearing your suggestions at my first Reunion, strengthening and expanding the spiritual messaging in our product line is the most rewarding to me. As a result, our sales have caught fire in this category reaching millions of people who are looking for strength and hope. Right up there with expanding our religious messaging, is the introduction of multiple Precious Moments branded products to decorate our homes and gardens, or to give as gifts. We especially received strong positive feedback from younger shoppers which bodes well for Precious Moments’ messaging for years to come.

Our Club Members’ enthusiasm has the power to attract new Members, especially younger people who can carry on the message of love. In one recent survey, we showed a bevy of our new products, which were not figurines, to a group of young mothers. They loved them, didn’t know Precious Moments offered them, and asked where they could buy them. In addition, our annual Reunion Event this year will offer expanded workshops incorporating a lot of activities younger people currently enjoy. So, please get the word out as we need more people sharing the gift of love these days! In addition, spread the word of these new products by giving them to your other family members as word-of-mouth is still the most powerful tool. Our garden product line offers many ‘thinking of you’ gifts for your friends and families. Lastly, give us a like on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. Our social media presence helps us all stay connected and excited about Precious Moments. What is different about the Precious Moments Company today versus when the collection began? The market has changed drastically since Mr. Butcher started this company. More young shoppers, with different needs, have come into the market. These consumers shop in different places, looking for product in a different way than before. Take greeting cards for instance. How many did you receive this Christmas versus 20 years ago? We are more likely to receive an email or an instant message. There wasn’t online shopping 40 years ago, either. To make this market transition, we had to bring in some new expertise to get us into the online shopping game. That talent, combined with some of the very people who helped build this company, makes us much more capable of taking Precious Moments well into the 21st century. How does the knowledge that Precious Moments has been around for 40 years impact business decisions you make going forward? Since very few companies survive 10 years, let alone 40, I know that this brand has a timeless quality with very broad appeal. Our decision-making revolves around how to ensure the brand continues to be popular for 40 more years and beyond. To do so, a few requirements must be met. First, the brand must remain true to the messaging which brought us here: “Precious Moments makes the world a better place by sharing the gift of love.” In addition, since many of us may not be around the next 40 years, we are studying the needs of younger consumers and planning our product line accordingly. We’ve conducted a lot of research lately and found that their product needs are different than ours while their desire for meaningful sentiment remains the same. What can Club Members do to help share the message of Precious Moments?

A Collector ' s Story
Recently, Club Member Sarah B., her fiancé Drew, and her five-year old daughter Olivia, made a special visit to the Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, MO. Years ago, Sarah had made the trip with her grandmother, and now that her daughter was old enough, she wanted Olivia to experience it as well. Olivia loved it just as much as Sarah knew she would. Her favorite part was exploring the Gift Shoppe, where Sarah allowed her to choose a figurine. “She picked out a Care Bears™ figurine. She really likes that one, but her favorite figurine is last year’s Club Symbol of Membership Life’s Always Greener With You By My Side. She keeps it on her nightstand!” Sarah explained. GENERATIONS OF LOVE FOR PRECIOUS MOMENTS
The love of Precious Moments has certainly come full circle. Sarah was influenced by her grandmother’s love of the collection and even had Precious Moments bedding and curtains as a child. Now she sees the excitement in her own daughter’s eyes. We asked Sarah why she thinks Precious Moments is just as appealing now as it was when she was a child, regardless of age. She thinks it’s partly because they are just so cute! But also, “Each figurine takes you back to a memory or a significant time in your life. That’s why they are meaningful to me – they’re about making memories,” she said. It’s always exciting when we hear about a new fan of Precious Moments. Sarah and Olivia loved everything about their visit to the Chapel and hope to visit again this Winter to see the lights and hear the carolers during the Choirs of Christmas event. We are glad to have them and you as part of our Precious Moments family!

Partnering with Feed the Children to H.E.L.P.
Looking for a way to give back to the children in your community? Precious Moments’ newest philanthropic partner, Feed the Children, helps at-risk children in so many ways. Founded in 1979, Feed the Children is one of the largest charities based in the U.S. with the mission of providing hope and resources for those without life’s essentials. With an accreditation from the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance and a 4-star rating from GuideStar Exchange, Feed the Children's programs and network of partner agencies outreach was approximately 5.1 million children and families in the U.S. in fiscal year 2017 alone.
One of the many ways this organization is making an impact is encouraging “Backpack Build” events through their Homeless Education and Literacy Program (H.E.L.P.) The backpacks are filled with school supplies, books, toiletries, and nutritious snacks so that the children who receive them can attend school with confidence. Since the 2006 Feed the Children has distributed more than 967,000 backpacks to American children who are at-risk or homeless. We invite you to explore the idea of hosting a Backpack Build within your organization. Whether you belong to a Precious Moments Local Club Chapter, church group, P.T.O., sports team, or business, uniting for a cause can strengthen your organization through team building and increase morale. A s we celebrate 40 years of Precious Moments, we can’t help but appreciate the different stages of building such a lasting legacy. Much like an enduring love story, the first decade is spent growing with love, while the second is spent sharing the dream of the life you’ve created together, and the good days you anticipate ahead of you. Things like planning for our children’s futures, career paths, dream vacations, and our own retirement are all part of this stage of life. Perhaps you have heard all of each other’s stories by this stage, and can probably recite them by heart, but you are also building new beautiful memories together every day. The legacy of Precious Moments has continued along a similar path. The first ten years of Precious Moments set a strong foundation for the future. By the second decade of Precious Moments’ existence, the collection grew to incorporate the moments that were most important to collectors and fans. Countless events and philanthropic partners were celebrated so that the dream for a better world might be realized. As we are celebrating, we can’t help but see the correlation between Precious Moments’ story and YOUR stories of love and longevity. I n coordination with the Feed the Children partnership, Precious Moments is offering a unique Giving Plate, for which a portion of the proceeds will support Feed the Children. The Giving Plate can be filled with goodies and gifted over and over again. It is meant to travel from one home to the next as friends and family share special recipes and treats. It creates a perfect tie in with the Feed the Children mission of helping fill children’s plates while also reinforcing how we continually share the good stuff with those we love!
