MEET YOUR FUTURE VOLUNTEER LEADERS

Anthony Reade Betteravia Farms

Anthony is the Berry Production Manager for Betteravia Farms in Santa Maria, Calif. In this role, he manages all berry operations, including strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries. Prior to joining Betteravia Farms, Anthony served as Ranch Manager for both Driscoll’s and Reiter Berry Farms. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Agronomy and Crop Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Jillian adopted an adorable dog a short time before we began dating that I have since adopted and have grown to love. Her one tiny quirk is that she absolutely despises all humans outside of her very tightly knit circle of people. Having friends over is like luring people into the lion exhibit at the zoo, but we love her nonetheless.

Weekends are my favorite days to come into work. Saturdays are always casual. Getting a break from the office work and getting to see and talk to the people who keep the wheels turning every day is the best part of my job.

The Dodgers are and have always been my team. My uncle, who passed away over 10 years ago now, played in the minor leagues for the Dodgers, so besides the proximity there is a special tie and deeper significance to me following them.

This picture captures some of the most important people in my life at the most important event of my life. The day I married my best friend, partner in life, and my wife, Jillian. There are so many members of my family who are part of the countless other pictures taken that day that deserve equal recognition beginning with my parents, my in-laws, and my entire extended family that I am fortunate to be so close to.

In typical farmer fashion, it's always been difficult to find time to get away from the ranch. My wife and I love to travel, and have made a few very memorable trips in the last two years including Costa Rica, London (part work/part fun), and most recently, Spain. Experiencing different cultures, centuries of history, and getting to take it all in with my wife/vacation planner.

Anthony is one of nine individuals selected to be in Class VII of the Future Volunteer Leaders, a program that guides the next generation of leaders within Western Growers member companies interested in becoming more informed and effective advocates for the fresh produce industry.
