NSRA Autocross 2026 American Autowire Spotlight

By Kevin Webb NSRA Autocross Director autocross@nsra-usa.com

I ’m very proud to announce American Autowire as a supporting sponsor of the 2026 NSRA Autocross Program. As a shop owner, I can tell you I’ve installed their wiring harnesses for many years and have always liked their quality. From a small two- man operation working from a basement to 100 employees and a 38,000-square-foot production facility, they have become one of the premier auto- motive electrical manufacturers for OEM/Restoration, and Street Rod/Custom vehicles. Many people don’t realize the importance of a good wiring harness in their vehicle. I hear the com- ment all the time that my wiring “looks okay” or “does- n’t wear out,” but unfortunately a few things are not taken into consideration. Many times electrical issues are not always the wiring, but the connectors. Heat cycles, humidity, and time can cause wiring to get brit- tle and crack or connectors to stop connecting. This can cause all sorts of issues with hard-to-find failures. Aside from these age issues, most vehicles have only six to nine glass fuses installed, with very limited ability to add circuits for a cooling fan or fuel injection sys- tem. Electrical demands from modern builds, whether for the street or track, are too much for older harness- es and they simply can’t handle the added loads of high-amperage alternators, cooling fans, and other accessories. All these loads can cause harness failures, and even a possible fire. In addition, all harnesses and gauge upgrades use a voltmeter instead of an amp gauge. Even way back in the ‘60s, increased demands from the cars’ electrical systems made manufacturers shy away from amp gauges for the safer volt gauges. This month we are going to talk to Marc DeMontigney, Sales and Marketing Manager for American Autowire: Kevin: A lot of people have a hard time deciding on the right wiring harness. How does American Autowire help with that decision? Marc: We have introduced different options over the years that help any installer choose the best harness for their vehicle. Our webpage Americanautowire.com and our great technical staff can assist anyone in picking the right harness for their vehicle. The “Highway” is the most versatile with flexible fuse box placement and freedom to customize with a labeled fuse panel. The “Builder Series” can handle big power, is perfect for tight wiring spots and fea- tures steel-reinforced terminals. “Power Plus” is a pre-wired and economical solu-

tion with factory style pre-wired fuse box. The “Severe Duty” is designed for rugged environments with a weatherproof relay panel system to power all your accessories. We get back to the basics with the “Route 9” a complete entry-level kit. It’s a basic ‘bullet- proof’ full-function electrical system that is compact and perfect for hot rods and rat rods. Finally we round it all out with the “Classic’Update’ designed for modern amenities in a classic vehicle. These are designed for specific make/model/year and are a vehicle-specific retromod wiring solution, complete with modern fuse boxes. Kevin: I know as an installer you are always com- ing up with new products and solutions for our cus- tomers’ vehicles, so what can we expect in the future? Marc: We are excited to introduce our new “Track 20 Modular Wiring System,” a complete power distri- bution panel built for modern road-going or track- centered builds. At its core is a centralized power sys- tem that organizes, protects, and distributes power while eliminating the clutter, guesswork, and limita- tions of traditional harnesses. The Track 20 fuse panel acts as the home base of your build, delivering organ- ized power distribution through a clean, centralized layout. The modular design is fully functional as is or it allows for easy growth with optional Relay and Accessory panels. It features 18 fused circuits, nine battery and nine ignition feed, plus two un-fused feeds, one battery for vehicle headlights, and one ignition for standalone EFI or HEI ignition systems. The Relay Expansion Panel holds relays for the horn, turn signal, and hazard lights, allowing an easy way to allow track cars to become legal, and the Accessory’ Expansion Panel offers disconnectable power in the form of 10 circuits with eight of them fused, keeping accessory circuits like radio, heater, wipers, and anything else you can throw at it isolated and organized, ensuring they don’t interfere with crit- ical systems, especially during startup and operation. It’s engineered to solve some of the prob- lems builders face in the real world. Kevin: Thanks, Marc, for pointing out the high- lights of today’s high-power-demanding electrical sys- tems. We look forward to welcoming American Autowire to our events in 2026.
