But God Is number one. Take care of God’s interests, and He will look after yours.—J. Hudson Taylor. 6. Obedience, the Secret of Strength “No\Y, then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do” (Gen. 31:16). Every hard duty that lies in your path that you ^would rather not do, that will cost you pain, or struggle, or sore effort to do, has a blessing in it. . . . A negro preacher once said: “ Bredreri, whateber de good God tells me to do in dis blessed Book, dat I’m, gwine to do. If I see in it dat I must jump troo a stone wall, I’m gwine to jump at it. Going troo it belongs to God; jumpin’ at it belongs to me.” —D. L. Moody. Instant Obedience “So he. arose and went to Zarephath” (1 Ki. 17:10). Let it be equally said of you to whatever duty the Lord may call you away, “He arose and went.” Be the way ever so laborious or dangerous, still arise, like Elijah, and go. Go cheerfully, in faith,v keeping your heart quietly dependent-on the Lord. . . . Though tossed on a sea of troubles, you may anchor on the firm founda tion of God, which1 stands sure. You have for security His exceeding great and precious promises. —F. W. Krummacher. None But Christ “Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life” (John 6 : 68 ). O Christ, in Thee my soul hath found, And found in Thee alone, 7. 8.
Thé peace, the joy I sought so long, The biiss till now unknown. Now none but Christ can satisfy, None other name for me, \ There’s love, and life, and lasting joy, Lord Jesus, found in Thee. —Selected. 9- Prayer Signals “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” (Isa. 26:3). Peace is here the “because” of trust. And when.anxiety attacks trust, it banishes, peace, Peace is a gentle dove which sits and broods in rest ful quiet in the heart of the trustful soul. Anxiety is a fierce vulture which tears the heart of its victim with cruel beak and talon until he bleeds away his very life with anxious care. . . . Is it any wonder that God calls upon us to hasten to prayer as soon as anxiety looms upon our spiritual horizon? Every anxiety becomes a prayer signal from God. —James McConkey. 10. Beauty and Growth “Be thou an example of the be lievers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Tim. 4:12). Have you seen the white wonder of -the dogwood, of almond blossoms, of plum and of apple? Notice that the dogwood is first green, then white, growing larger and whiter each mo ment'until it reaches its full size. This reminds us of the way the Holy Spirit takes the new life in us and nfakes it grow in evidences of purity. Do people catch their breath in ec-. stasy over your, life, as one views a tree in glory?— The Conqueror. 11. - Heart Rest' “In the morning, as they .passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. . . . And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God” (Mk. 11:20, 22). The withering of the fig tree was so unexpected, its cursing was so con trary to their conception of the mind and spirit of their Master, that the disciples were filled with apprehen sion. But the only answer of the Son of Man to their troubled questioning was an exhortation to utter trust in God.,So it has been in every age. There are things that God’s people can only dimly understand. . . . The heart must wait for light; but, as it waits, it can trust and sing praises. —Alliance Weekly. 12. Eternity's Morning “A true witness delivereth souls” (Prov. 14:25). What will you and I count on eter nity’s morning? Money? No, that will
