SUSTAINABLE COMMITMENT
Sustainability means to consider how our actions today will affect the world of tomorrow and to balance economic decisions with an awareness and consideration for their environmental and social impact.
This document is the visible part of our commitment, a way of sharing our vision, our actions and our objectives.
Sofitel London St James' commitments are formalized in this reference document that defines the objectives, principles and roles of each member of staff and team.
We are currently EarthCheck Silver certified and our goal is to get recertified in 2025. We are currently in the process of this.
In 2023 and 2024, we successfully achieved Green Key status. These are leading standards of excellence for environmental responsibility and sustainable operation in the tourism and hospitality sector.
In 2022, we eradicated all single-use plastic in our rooms. But our road does not stop there, we continue on our sustainability journey.

Guests will find a master switch in rooms to ensure energy used from lighting is more efficient.

We are working on a Sustainable Menu for our conference and events offering, focused on local, organic, seasonal produce and using Foodsteps to calculate the carbon impact.
Coffee capsules are sent back to Nespresso and recycled.
We strive to use local suppliers, and those that minimise their use of single- use plastic in packaging where possible.

We are measuring our food wastage using AI tools, using the data to reduce the amount of food waste we create. Working on a sustainable event menu. Give preference to local suppliers and sustainable, seasonal produce.

We celebrate over 60 nationalities of our colleagues in the hotel, including national foods in the staff canteen. We have created and are executing a DE&I calendar We are volunteering and donating food, clothes and personal care products to Charity Begins at Home, and other local charities.
We work hard to reduce our carbon footprint by centralising our purchases through Birchstreet, which helps us to ensure all of our suppliers follow our Responsible Procurement Charter and accept our sustainability T’s&C’s. We aim to use as many local and sustainable suppliers as possible, throughout the hotel.

Paper and cardboard, glass, and mixed recycling are recycled, with zero waste going to landfill
We aim to continue our efforts to work with local and sustainable suppliers.
In the upcoming years we will be working on reducing our energy usage in the hotel, in an effort to lower our carbon footprint.
We will continue our efforts to reduce food waste throughout all of our F&B outlets.
We aim to reinforce our communication about sustainable practices, both internally and externally, not only to strengthen the awareness of our employees but also to pass on to our guests and suppliers our clear and strong commitment towards helping resolve the increasingly concerning environmental issues.
