Tickets flying off the shelf for sports dome gala!
As a matter of fact, a fewminutes before going to press, Doug Anthony announced that the $10,000 table had just been bought, making Embrun’s Bertrand Plumbing and
Heating Inc. the official sponsor of the event. Fifteen corporate tables are still available and buying a table beyond $2,500 will be granted visibility on the Recognition Wall.

Since people have first heard that the legendary comedian and impersonator André-Philippe Gagnon was coming into town in February, tickets for corporate and supporter tables have been going like hot cakes. As amatter of fact, they have almost raised half of their target goal of $100,000. “We’ve done extremely well on our tables. In two and a half days, we have been, not really selling, we’ve just been answering the phone. We’re halfway sold-out,” said Doug Anthony of the Russell Kin Club, during his presentation to Council on January 9. “It just clearly demonstrates that we’ve seen within the business community. They’ve been very supportive.” he added, before apologizing to Council: “It was my intent to offer you a table. I will not be sitting at a table. None of our Kin members will. The tables are going so fast and so expen- sive, that I just don’t want to give away the money, I’m that cheap.” The tickets are expected to completely sell out and if that does, the conundrum will be that the public wants to go but there won’t be any room left. “It’s kind of ironic because, I’ve been trying to sell tables at Rock-Kin the night away for $250 of $500 and I have a hard time doing it.Then I offer them anywhere between $1,200 and $10,000 and everybody’s screaming for themand paying top dollar. It’s a nice problem to have.”
Over $67,000 clear raised for the dome so far

“That really is a testament of the commu- nity, how devoted and how supportive it’s been so far,” said Anthony, who also thanked Russell Township council for its support through several initiatives and fundraising activities. Other events are in progress, including Rock-KIN the night away at Russell High School on February 4, Bending Bars, a pow- erliftingmeet and fundraiser on February 18 as well as the 18 th edition of Poutmasters to be held in May.
In a report to council last Monday evening, January 9, Doug Anthony, coordinator of the Sports dome financing campaign, an- nounced that over $80,000 were raised so far. He also pointed out that expenses in- curred only amounted to $13,000. “We’ve spent 16.27 per cent. This is a very low fig- ure. Traditionally, when you’re fundraising you’re going to have expenses around 25 per cent, just for buying things, advertisement, all those types of things.” In addition to the corporate gala, which is expected to raise $100,000, door-to-door canvassing has raised $26,000 so far. Many organizations have also supported the sports dome through fundraising activities and donations. A payroll deduction campaign through United Way is also under way and expected to raise a significant amount of money.
