Vlasta Velisavljević, glumac Vlasta Velisavljević, actor
I preserve almost an entire century in my scrapbook A cool guy, Dorćol native, bohemian and one of the most timeless active European actors, Vlasta Velisavljević was born in Belgrade 94 years ago. He recalls people and events that are inscribed in the biography of the capital, and here is just a small excerpt of his precious memories… The year Nušić departed At the beginning of 1938 I was preparing a role for “A Trip Around the World”, in a play adapted for the Ro- da Children’s eatre, which was founded by Gita Predić, the daughter of Branislav Nušić. Roda formed the founda- tions of today’s Boško Buha eatre. On the day when our Belgrade premiere was scheduled, 19 th January, Branislav Nušić passed away, and the premiere performance was postponed. e National eatre hung a black banner on the building as a sign of mourning for the great writer. e text of our play was adapted for child audiences, because Nušić – as the author of the original play of the same name for adults – had allowed his daughter to do so. I saw Nušić for the first and last time in a hospital bed in his house, just before he departed. Liberation in Voždovac I awaited the liberation of Belgrade at the end of World War II in Voždovac. at part of the city was liberated first. A rural population lived in Voždovac at that time, and the boys were fierce, so I never got into conflicts with them as a native of Dorćol. Classmates in A Better Life I was in my student class with Olivera Marković and Pepi Laković. When we were divided into classes as stu- dents we became plotters, but we lived like one for all. is picture is a still from the shooting of the TV series A Bet- ter Life. It is one of our rare joint pictures where we found ourselves in the same frame and on the same project for the first time after many years.
Mno- go smo se voleli.
