searcher of Serbian geography and a man who visited every mountain peak on the Balkan peninsula. “No mountain and no mountain peak in Serbia leave such a deep impression on the observer as Rtanj and Šil- jak. Contained within it are calmness, vastness and symmetry. The main ridge of its massif, with a length of 5.6 km, rises steadily from a broad surface, undulating, and ends with the almost perfect cupola Šiljak... It contains within it the individual and the imposing, like in great individuals,” wrote our first geogra- pher, expressing his enthusiasm. The story of Rtanj is also linked to the famous Jewish Minh family. Samuil Minh ar- rived in Paraćin from Moravia in around 1870. The owner of a textile factory, he later also owned the Rtanj coal mine. Together with his three sons, he built infrastructure, includ- ing a cable car, mountain railroad and steam power plant, while for their miners they built a settlement with a medical clinic, school and cinema. In this way, the Minh family revived the entire region. In honour of her husband, Julius Minh, and the son of the original own- er, Greta Minh erected a chapel at the top of Rtanj in 1932, dedicated to St. George. The pathway used by mountaineers today was the route via which workers carried the stones needed to build the chapel one by one. The church was destroyed in the 1990s, with the vandals believing that gold was buried there. Today on this peak stands only the preserved eastern part of the wall of the church, while there are numerous initiatives to restore the church and place a cross at the top of this
mountain, as the spiritual symbol of Rtanj and the sign of Christian Orthodoxy. Is Rtanj a perfect masterpiece of nature or an ancient pyramid? Many Rtanj research- ers and enthusiasts claim it is the world’s on- ly three-sided pyramid, characterised by a high level of bioenergy and electromagnet- ic radiation that strengthens the body and spirit of anyone who visits this place. The lo- cals living at the foot of the mountain call it the Sanctuary, while the area houses the re- mains of buildings from some ancient period. Every summer sees a group of enthusiasts and people engaged not only in physical as- pects of reality, but also spiritual ones, gath- er on Rtanj to take measurements and un- cover evidence that Rtanj is an unusual and powerful corner of the cosmos. As evidence, they cite that the average strength of the alternating resonant electric field in Serbia ranges from 20 to 30 volts per square metre, while in some places on Rtanj it is as high as 60 and 70 volts, and that Rtanj is a gigan- tic resonator of subtle energies. Rtanj is the right mountain destination for those who believe that unusual things, inconceivable to the rational mind, lie behind that which we see with our own eyes. When we remove the dust of cities from our personal antennas, we will succeed in connecting, says every- one who has felt that there is something in- describably beautiful and energising in this mountain. Expedition participants recount stories of how a specific synchronicity rules here, in terms of a congruence of thoughts andeventsamongdifferentpeople.Tothose who want to feel oneness with nature and the people around them, Rtanj winks, invites and extends a hand of welcome. Those with the wildest imaginations believe that aliens chose this place as their base on our planet. And Serbian winters are easier to han- dle with a cup of Rtanj tea. Imagine beauti- ful mountain glades and meadows, green and multicoloured by a wide variety of me- dicinal herbs. That fragrance of grass, sun, summer and carelessness extends over 800 hectares of wild plant life. Rtanj is so rich in health and healing that’s it’s no wonder that it is also dubbed ‘God’s Garden’. Rtanj tea is made from the upper parts of the local heath- er plant (Satureja montana). The collected floral tips help strengthen the body and im- prove its ability to fight viruses, digestive and respiratory problems, but also to generally feel at ease and feel joy flowing through the blood, feeding the red blood cells. There are many reasons to come to Serbia and visit the mountain of Rtanj. With a sip of warm scent- ed tea, cheers!
