encounter an abandoned little girl who they accept as a member of their family... It will, of course, be tough to watch all the films offered by the festival, but the 24 th FAF certainly has some titles that distinguish themselves as treats for real film gourmets. That’s especially the case for those who ex- pect films to take them to the unexpected worlds. That’s expected this year from Jean- Luc Godard’s new creation The Image Book, an essay fairy tale of this tireless creator, which was crowned with a Special Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. It is said in jest that film critics pretend to understand his films in order not to contradict the father of the French new wave and this singularly important figure of world cinematography. Of course, only a few of them admitted that The Image Book, like his earlier works, is dif- ficult to define, but that it’s also definitely a film that’s not to be missed! The new film by László Nemes will be far more communicative. He captivated us at the same festival a few years ago with his film Son of Saul, just a few months prior to receiv- ing an Oscar for the best foreign language film. His latest film, Sunset, was screened at the recently concluded Venice Film Festival. Set in Budapest during 1913, the main pro- tagonist faces her own fears and hopes on the eve of the outbreak of World War I. Critics have been unified in praising Nemes’s latest creation, stressing that it nevertheless differs too much from Son of Saul for comparisons to be drawn. The FAF audience will not only be able to compare Nemes’s latest work with his previ- ous creations, but can also compare the con- troversial Gaspar Noé’s latest work, Climax, with almost all of his previous films, each of which provoked storms of reactions in their own way. We need only recall the most fa- mous of them all, Irréversible, with Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel, and brutal scenes that have been so widely discussed. Judg- ing by the synopsis of Climax, which was first screened at Cannes, the plot is “somewhat milder”. A group of French dancers gather in an abandoned school to rehearse during a wintry night. But the gathering turns into an hallucinatory nightmare when the dancers discover that their sangria has been laced with LSD… And while we’re on the topic of con- troversy, the local audience will finally get a chance to watch Ognjen Glavonić’s much-dis- cussed film The Load. Over the almost quarter-century of its existence, FAF’s role, among other things, has been to enable viewers to participate active- ly in the debates that are demanded of them by auteur film works.

Kritika je unisono hvalila i ovo ostvarenje Lasla Neme- ša, naglasivši da je ipak u mnogo če- mu drugačije od Šaulovog sina da bi se njim uporedilo. Publika FAF-a biće u prilici da upo- redi ne samo Nemešev rad sa prethod- nim već i novo delo kontroverznog Gaspara Noe Klimaks sa gotovo sva- kim njegovim prethodnim filmom, ko- ji su svaki na svoj način izazivali buru reakcija. Setimo se samo najčuvenijeg od svih, filma Otpozadi sa Monikom Beluči i Vensanom Kaselom, i tako su- rovih scena o kojima se pričalo. Sudeći po sinopsisu najnovijeg filma Klimaks , prikazanog u Kanu, radnja je nešto bla- ža. Grupa francuskih plesača okuplja se u napuštenoj školi kako bi vežbala tokom jedne zimske noći. No, to oku- pljanje pretvara se u halucinantnu noć- nu moru kada plesači shvate da je san- grija koju piju puna droge… Kad smo već kod kontroverzi, do- maća publika će konačno videti i film Teret Ognjena Glavonića, o kojem se toliko pričalo. Između ostalog, uloga FAF-a tokom gotovo dve i po deceni- je postajanja bila je i u tome da gle- daoci i sami uzmu aktivno učešće u debatama koje od njih traže autorska filmska dela.
Imamure, sineaste koji je tada svoju nagradu delio na ravne časti sa Iran- cem Abasom Kjarostamijem – prvi za film Jegulja , drugi za film Ukus treša- nja . Oba ostvarenja se pamte do danas. Sudeći po reakcijama iz Kana, nezabo- ravan će biti i film Hirokazu Koreede, autora koji konstantno traga za koreni- ma i uzrocima otuđivanja među člano- vima porodične zajednice. Film Krad- ljivci već naslovom sugeriše reč gotovo nepostojanu u japanskom jeziku, što samoj radnji donosi dodatnu intrigan- tnost. A radnja filma, okarakterisanog kao krimi-drama, dešava se oko soci- jalno ugrožene porodice koja živi na ivici egzistencije u predgrađu Tokija. Da bi preživeli, bave se sitnim krađa- ma i upravo posle jedne takve situa- cije nailaze na napuštenu devojčicu i prihvataju je kao člana svoje porodice… Teško će se, naravno, odgledati svi filmovi koje festival nudi, no svakako se na 24. FAF-u ističu neki naslovi kao poslastice za prave filmske sladokusce. Naročito za one koji od filma očeku- ju da ih odvede u neslućene svetove. A ove godine to se očekuje od novog ostvarenja Žan-Lika Godara Slikovni- ca , esejističke bajke neumornog stva- raoca ovenčanog specijalnom Zlatnom palmom u Kanu ove godine. Prati ga šala da se filmski kritičari pretvaraju da razumeju njegove filmove kako se ne bi protivili ocu francuskog novog talasa i tako osobenoj figuri svetskog filma. Naravno, tek retki su priznali da je i Slikovnicu , kao i njegove ranije ra- dove, teško prepričati, ali da je svakako u pitanju film koji ne treba propustiti! Daleko narativniji biće novi film Lasla Nemeša, koji nas je na istom fe- stivalu pre samo nekoliko godina za- ledio filmom Šaulov sin , nekoliko me- seci pre nego što će dobiti i Oskara za najbolje ostvarenje van engleskog go- vornog područja. Na nedavno završe- nom Venecijanskom festivalu prikazan je njegov najnoviji film Zalazak sunca ,
