Na trgu Dam prepunom turista i izgladnelih putnika, stolove i stolice zamenile su stepenice On the packed Dam square filled with tourists and hungry travellers, tables and chairs have been replaced by steps
which the biggest events are held, as well as De Bijenkorf, an exclusive department store locat- ed in an old building in the Dutch architectur- al style. On the packed square filled with tourists and hungry travellers, tables and chairs have been re- placed by steps, where cones of thickly cut pota- to chips taste better with a view of the old cathe- dral. While you are take a break with a meal that you can prepare yourself, thanks to the large su- permarket nearby, you will be entertained by jugglers, flame throwers and artists. This square, however, is just the starting point for a tour of the unimaginable array of muse- ums in this city. The queues of tourists begin in front of Madame Tussauds Museum, with its waxworks of celebrated figures. A little further
along is an entire treasure trove of artworks around the Museumplein, which is ideal for res- pite and picnicking among the modern sculp- tures of contemporary artists. It is surround- ed on all sides by famous museums, such as the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum and the Museum of Modern Art on Museumplein. Tak- ing photographs is inevitable here, because it is right at this point that the famous “I love Am- sterdam” 3D inscription is located. At the junction of roads and canals there is al- ways a place to relax with a view of the flowing water and the fences placed alongside that are covered with beautiful, colourful flowers, but al- so longboats and barges that serve as café gar- dens. It is impossible to resist window displays filled with various cheeses, from smoked cheese
to those blended with truffles and herbs. Nobody will steal your bicycle here, as Bora Čor- ba sang in the famous song “Amsterdam”, but you’re unlikely to feel like an Amsterdamer! We tried to embark on this crazy adventure for just 10 euros, which is how much it costs to rent a bike for a full day. You should merge with the perfect infrastructure of cycle paths as if head- ing onto a motorway! We waited carefully for our chance, but there was no way we could set off until some Americans with the same prob-
lem gave way for us. DON’T MISS FLOWER MARKET
A sea of tulips and multicoloured flowers is of- fered on the stalls of Flower Market, which is
