multifaceted symbol in a wide range, from product design, graphic design, logo design, branding and marketing, to sym- bols absorbed in computer languages. That’s why the ornament is timeless, never obsolete and always open to reinterpretation,” explains our interlocutor, stressing that inspiration in ornaments can also be found in other cultures, such as Egyptian, Persian, Assyrian, Greek, Roman or Byzantine. However, our Easter egg is dressed in orna- ments that flourished in this region during the Middle Ages. - On the territory of former and present Serbian lands, there is found a particularly rich base in which we found inspiration and our way. This story is dappled with the exciting history of Serbs in medieval times, the creation of the ruling dynasties of Nemanjić and Lazarević, architecture and aesthetics, the traditions and culture of that time,” says Vladimir. The authors of the“Easter egg”project, alongside the story about how eggs used to be painted, also bring a little booklet about the monasteries that this ornamenta- tion comes from, but primarily invites us to consciously examine the tradition and in our time to bear live witness to faith and love.

– Vaskrs se smatra najvećim hrišćanskim praznikom, pobedom nad smrću, povratkom u besmrtni život, vaskrsnućem. Inače je prirodni nastavak paganskih rituala koji slave istu temu, to jest ponovno rađa- nje prirode, početak novog ciklusa, a jaje se uzi- ma kao simbol tog novog života. Upravo taj ritual, odvajkada integralni deo porodičnog folklora i folklora šire zajednice, danas izu- mire.

- Easter is considered the greatest Christian holiday, victory over death, return to an im- mortal life -resurrection. It is otherwise a natural continuation of pagan rituals that celebrate the same theme, i.e. the rebirth of nature; the beginning of a new cycle, and the egg is taken as a symbol of this new life. It is actually this ritual, from time immemorial an integral part of both family tradition and folklore of the wider community, that is today dying out. It is lost in the search for something less important and transient, replaced by quick and practical solutions, not to stand in the way of our hurrying. It would be a shame to forever forget that our faith and our customs are in fact the guardians of our hearths. That’s why, on Good Friday, fathers are for buying groceries and visit- ing the market, mothers are for preparation and organisation, while children are there to make a memora- ble mess and something nice to remember, says Vladimir with regard to the symbolism and practises of the custom of decorating eggs at Easter.
