There is no doubt that technology is simply amazing. We can find the answer to nearly any question with just a few strokes on the keyboard or a voice command. We’ve created “smart homes” and robotic vacuums. Encyclopedias have been replaced with search engines. But with the awesome power of technology also comes temptation. We are tempted by the 24-hour access to news, current events and games that are, quite literally, right at our fingertips. It seems like it is becoming increasingly more difficult to just be “present,” and appreciate a moment for what it is without the need to document it, or cross-reference it, or compare it to others. Why not try a few of these tips and see if it improves your memory making and your ability to be present for all of life’s most precious moments. Create More Memories With Fewer Distractions!
• Wake up without wireless! Do you open your eyes and reach for your phone? Instead, decide you will not check your messages until you have fed your brain at least as well as your body – with a chapter of a book, a good conversation with your spouse, or at the very least a few minutes of meditation. • Get outdoors! Whether it’s a bike ride at your local park or a leisurely stroll around the block, it’s a great way to unplug and appreciate the beauty all around us – not just in pictures on a screen.

• Make dinnertime a time where electronics are forbidden. The television is turned off, phones do not come to the table, and the dinging of emails is ignored. Use this time to connect with your spouse, children, or roommate. You just might find them lingering longer over dessert to share a story.
• Plan a “game night” for board games, puzzles, cards, or dice. If someone gets caught looking at their phone, they lose a turn! • Download an app like Freedom for your smartphone or StayFocusd for your computer to help you limit your time on social media. • Host a “phone free” party. Collect everyone’s phones upon arrival and they cannot retrieve them until they leave!
