CORNWALL | Guy Lauzon, current Member of Parliament for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, has been ac- claimed as the Conservative candidate for the next federal election, expected in 2015. “It has been a privilege and honour to serve the constituents of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry for the past 10 years. I continue to have the same energy and passion as I did on Day One,” said Lauzon. “I enjoy the work that I do and I am very proud of our Conservative government’s record, both locally and across Canada.” Lauzon has served as Member of Parliament in Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry since his victory in the 2004 election. Lauzon has improved his vote percentage in each election. In the 2011 federal election, Lauzon captured 62.1% of the vote and a riding record 29,538 votes. “I will run the next campaign like I always do, campaigning as if we are behind by 10,000 votes,” Lauzon contin- ued. “We already have a campaign team, fundraising is ongoing, and I am out every day talking with constituents and voters. We are more ready than ever for the next election.” Guy Lauzon to run in next elections Over 100 participants took part in the Glow for Mental Health Zumba event that took place on October 20. With the help of Chrystal Bowen and Scotiabank, who matched all proceeds through the Scotiabank Team Community Program, an amount of over $2,000 was raised to help the cause. Now, the hard work begins Letter addressed to all candidates, members of council and the newmayor elect and citizens of Cornwall. I would like to pass on my congratulations to all the Council and mayoral candidates and, particularly, the newMayor and Council elect for the solid campaigns they ran. Further, I pass on my appreciation to the vot- ers of Cornwall who ful"lled their civic duty in this election. The majority of this new council elect presented very positive platforms that focused on raising the qual- ity of life for all residents and not just their own self-interest groups. Most also focused on selling the city’s great potential to help it grow. Congratulations again to these councillors. Now the hard work begins to deliver on these promises and help build the business sector so we can properly address the underlying issues that are the root causes for our youth leaving, poverty and stunted city development. The other hard part will be for the citizens who just voted to stay in touch with what is happening at City Hall. Please remember this is your town and, if we are all to work together, we must balance the bene"ts (services) with the burdens (taxation) and keep on top of all activities at City Hall. We should all win in this scenario, but we must balance the e#ort in the same way we all have to do when we balance our own household budgets. Congratulations again to all and let us truly become the city of choice and the place to grow over the next 4 years!
