58 POWER TAKE-OFF (PTO) OPERATION

Some PTO’s possess an internal clutch pack that may rotate in cold weather with the engine running before the PTO is engaged. Be aware that when these clutch packs are engaged the drive shaft will rotate. Allow the transmission to operate for a few minutes before engaging the PTO. Allow the PTO to operate for a few minutes before actuating driven equipment. Do not engage a PTO if there is any suspicion that the driven equipment is jammed, frozen, stuck or bound in any manner. Engaging a PTO under these circumstances could cause severe personal injury and/or property damage. Never attempt to stop or slow down a rotating shaft or driven equipment by any means other then disengaging the PTO or driven equipment. There are various transmission types and PTO applications. The operator must read and understand all operation manuals and procedures to avoid personal injury and/or property damage.

Maintain all safety labels provided.

NOTICE

Some OEM chassis manufactures have integrated electronic controls which require certain conditions to be met before engaging a PTO. These include, but are not limited to setting the parking brake, foot off the brake, engine at idle, foot off the accelerator pedal, and/or the transmission in neutral.
