TENSION OR TRUST (Cont.) going to stop being our Shepherd because we get frightened and anxious. He is the One Who “ giv- eth to all liberally and upbraideth not” (James 1 :5 ). Whatever may be the deeper implications, we know that even our Lord suffered great agony o f spirit in the garden. “ And even though Jesus was God’s Son, He had to learn from experience what it was like to obey, when obeying meant suffering” (Living Let ters, The Paraphrased Epistles, Heb. 5 :8 ) . As He yielded His will to the will o f His Father, He “ sweat as it were great drops o f blood.” He was the perfect Son, with perfect faith, yet He suf fered great heaviness o f heart. To feel distress literally drain away and to have deep peace take its place has been the blessed ex perience o f multitudes who have brought their problems to God. But they did have problems to be gin with. There was turbulence before there was peace. His gra cious “ Let not your heart be troubled,” (John 14 :1 ) is ad dressed to anxious hearts. His “ fea r not” is to those who are afraid. Let us stop blaming ourselves fo r anxiety and tension. That in itself will mean one less burden. Let us remember that we have a High Priest Who is “ touched with the feeling o f our infirmi ties” (Heb. 4 :1 5 ). He is not near ly as surprised by our imperfec tions as we are. We might even dare to “ come boldly unto the throne o f grace, that we may ob tain mercy, and find grace to help in time o f need” (Heb. 4 :1 6 ). Why not accept ourselves, just as we are? God does. E ditor ’ s N ote : Mrs. Uber was a stu dent in the Biola School of Missionary Medicine in 1958. During that time she was challenged to prepare a special article for T he K ing ’ s B usiness . Since the stu dents are kept extremely busy during the one-year intensified course of education, she was unable to prepare the manuscript. We thank the Lord for the challenge which the Holy Spirit has led her to pre sent.
