„Finding a Way“

finding a Way

Serbian contemporary art in New York This exhibition is a multimedia presentation of a cross-section of Serbia’s contemporary art scene, comprising works created using traditional painting and sculpting techniques, as well as the premieres of works of performance art T he public today enjoys the Manhattan neigh- bourhood of Hell’s Kitchen for its active nightlife, wide selection of cuisine and the off-Broadway theatre scene. It was also in this neighbourhood that legendary songs like Im- agine, American Pie and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun were created, while Hell’s Kitchen is also home to the restau- rant where the famous Seinfeld show was created and the Actors Studio drama school. But take an even closer look and you’ll see the history of this quarter that’s not included in the guidebooks, despite being packed with galleries and spirited artists. And it is right here, at Gallery MC, that Serbian con- temporary art has found time and space to communicate with the local audience, through the exhibition ‘Find- ing a Way’. After visiting Washington, D.C. in 2022, the authors of this art project – Marija Milošević from Bel- grade’s Art for All Gallery and Washington’s Elisabeth Escobar – are continuing to promote Serbian contem- porary art, this time in the city that represents the birth- place of the world’s contemporary art scene. This exhibition is a multimedia presentation of a cross-section of Serbia’s contemporary art scene, compris- ing works created using traditional painting and sculpt- ing techniques, as well as the premieres of works of per- formance art. Artists Julija Kasteluči and Sonja Radaković, wearing dresses designed to resemble the U.S. and Serbian flags, will utilise their bodies and voices to present a unique show of emotionally engaged performance art. The sym- bolism of ‘Finding a Way’ is presented in several aspects of the exhibition. Like the thorny path of the process of creating an artwork and propelling it to its final destina- tion, in this case the New York audience, but also the im- portance of international exchanges of ideas and global visibility. Questions are subsequently raised regarding ways to stand out in a milieu of countless high-quality productions and reduced visibility, but also the extent to which cultural diplomacy influences the forming of opinions and the conveying of messages.

Srpska savremena umetnost u Njujorku

Izložba je multimedijalni prikaz preseka savremene scene i čine je radovi nastali tradicionalnim slikarskim i vajarskim tehnikama,

kao i premijerno izvođenje umetničkog performansa

D anašnja publika uživa u Paklenoj ku- hinji Menhetna zbog aktivnog nocnog života, širokog spektra restorana i fast fudova i pozorišne četvrti van Brodve- ja. Simbolika „Pronalaženja načina“ prikazana je u nekoliko as- pekata.
