JAMIE KAH 100

A STAGGERING SUCCESS BY CEL IA PURDEY

Jamie Kah has made history by riding 100 metropolitan winners in a season, and nowwe can’t see what this horse-loving jockey will be aiming for next. VRC Chairman Neil Wilson said the record-breaking milestone was an extraordinary achievement that will be celebrated by racing and sports fans across the country. “Jamie continues to inspire the next generation of jockeys and sportspeople with her understated approach and single-minded focus on being the best she can be,” Mr Wilson said. “Her achievements on the track are underpinned by a genuine love for the animal that has seen her form rewarding partnerships with the horses she has ridden to victory, many of whom have reached new heights as a result.” “From her first Group 1 win on Harlem in the 2019 TAB Australian Cup to her 23 wins at Headquarters this season, Jamie holds a special place in Flemington history,” Mr Wilson said. Just weeks into her move to Melbourne in 2019, Jamie Kah achieved a lifelong goal. In March that year, she rode and won her first Group 1 race aboard Harlem in the $1.5 million TAB Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington. Now, she has become the first jockey to ride 100 Victorian metropolitan winners. It’s an amazing achievement in such a short time and a testament to her sheer talent. Kah’s potential was obvious early in her career when, during the first six months of her apprenticeship, she rode 40 winners. Now, she is leading the metropolitan and Flemington jockeys’ premierships and had her first ride in the Lexus Melbourne Cup last year, finishing third on Prince Of Arran. She won the 2021 Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning aboard Nature Strip and was named the 2021 Wakeful Club’s Lady of Racing. But Kah is modest about her achievements.
