Southern Open Vineyards The Southern Open Vineyards Weekend returns in 2026 with a record number of producers ready to showcase some of the state’s best drops.

HERIOTS POINT VINEYARD

Run annually in the South of Tasmania, this year’s event returns across three fun-filled days in the first weekend of March, welcoming interstate visitors and locals alike. The event is in its 29th year, and a record 53 producers will open their doors, with some launching their wines and cellar doors for the very first time. Originally conceived by wine writer Graeme Phillips as an event to celebrate the many producers without permanent cellar door facilities, the Southern Open Vineyards Weekend has run every year for 29 years. The Mercury Newspaper was the organiser of the event for most of that time, with Greer Carland of Quiet Mutiny taking the reigns in 2020. In 2024, WineSouth agreed to take responsibility for its continued success and now organises the event as a sister event to the Spring In The Vines event held each November. This year’s event runs from February 27 to March 1 and provides interstate and local wine enthusiasts unparalleled access to

Southern Tasmania’s wine producers.

Southern Open Vineyards is designed as a wine touring event, where visitors can spend a day, or two or three exploring the five sub-regions of the South East (Tasman), Coal River Valley, Huon Valley, Derwent Valley, and D’Entrecasteaux Channel. The event features world-famous producers alongside wineries unknown outside of Tasmania. Visitors are invited to wander through the vineyards, chat with winemakers, and taste wines where they are created. From hidden boutique gems to award- winning estates, there will be some seriously good options to choose from; both for dedicated wine enthusiasts looking to explore new-release and vintage wines, or families & friends looking for a fun
