Clubs Tasmania
Building skills, strengthening clubs and celebrating community Prior to Christmas, Clubs Tasmania proudly launched the Kick Start First Aid Program in partnership with the Migrant Resource Centre, responding directly to a growing issue facing community sport across the state — a significant shortage of qualified Sports Trainers. Community clubs told us loud and clear that finding trained support staff was becoming increasingly difficult, particularly at grassroots level. In response, Clubs Tasmania designed the Kick Start First Aid Program to create a practical, accessible pathway for people to gain the essential skills needed to support clubs safely and confidently. In January, the program came to life with the delivery of an intensive three-day course, which saw participants complete: • First Aid qualification • Concussion management training, a critical area of focus in modern sport • A hands-on sports taping course, providing real-world, game-day skills A total of 16 participants successfully completed the program, and the impact is already being felt. These newly trained Sports Trainers will help ease pressure on clubs in the southern region of Tasmania, improving safety for players while giving clubs greater confidence heading into the season. Encouragingly, this is just the beginning. Clubs Tasmania is hopeful the Kick Start First Aid Program can be rolled out in the north of the state in the near future, bringing the same benefits to even more community clubs and volunteers.
Supporting volunteers through education and training Beyond this program, Clubs Tasmania continues heavily with educational workshops designed to support community clubs and the volunteers who keep them running. Clubs currently have access to a range of practical and informative workshops, including: • Sports Taping Workshops, providing hands- on, game-ready skills • Digital Sponsorship Workshops, helping clubs attract, retain, and deliver value to sponsors • Advara Heart Care sessions, focused on heart health awareness and early intervention • Governance Workshops, supporting committees to better understand their roles, responsibilities, and legal obligations These workshops are designed to be accessible, practical, and directly relevant to the day-to-day challenges faced by community clubs.
