A new way to celebrate what makes clubs great Clubs Tasmania is also excited to announce something very special for 2026 — our very first Clubs Tasmania Awards Event. This inaugural celebration will shine a spotlight on the people, clubs, and businesses that make Tasmania’s sporting and community club sector so strong. The awards will feature 10 categories, recognising excellence, dedication, innovation, and community impact across the state: • Coach of the Year • Club Volunteer of the Year • Community Club of the Year • Sports Club of the Year (less than 3 paid staff) • Sports Club of the Year (3 or more paid staff) • RSL Club of the Year • People’s Choice Club of the Year • Sustainability Initiative Award • Best Hospitality Offering • Community Business Contribution Award
Local cricket legend awarded OAM
Wynyard and Districts Cricket Club stalwart Rhys London has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division for his outstanding service to the Wynyard community. Mr London’s contribution to local sport spans more than 50 years, with his service to the Wynyard and Districts Cricket Club described as nothing short of extraordinary. A Life Member since 1975, he has recently been recognised for 50 years of membership with the Wynyard and Districts Cricket Club.
During his distinguished cricket career, Mr London served as club president on multiple occasions, captained the First Grade side, while he also played 172 First Grade matches as a wicketkeeper, scoring 3170 runs and taking 125 catches and five stumpings. Beyond cricket, Mr London has given decades of service to the Wynyard community through leadership roles in aged care, youth services, sport administration, pharmacy, and more than 53 years as a Justice of the Peace. The Wynyard and Districts Cricket Club said Mr London’s OAM is a fitting recognition of a lifetime dedicated to sport and community, noting that his professionalism, positivity and commitment have left a lasting legacy.
