2035 CTP Vol 1 - Adopted 7-10-2017

Recommendations Development The transit element of this plan builds upon recommendations and analysis performed in CAMPO’s Southwest Area Study in 2012, as well as additions that supplement new growth and the 2035 Community Vision Land Use Plan. Recommendations respond to areas within the Town with the greatest amount of activity and density: downtown, mixed use neighborhoods, employment villages, and commercial villages. Recommendations are described below. Phase 1 Transit Elements ® Continue support of express bus routes from Wake Tech and downtown to Raleigh o The existing express bus routes servicing Wake Tech, downtown Fuquay-Varina, and Raleigh has been very successful. Funding for this route is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. The Town should continue to support and promote this service. o The Town should continue to seek additional transit connection between the core of Fuquay-Varina and Wake Tech. o Wake Tech is the 2 nd largest community college in North Carolina. Adding an additional park & ride that serves Wake Tech and the NC 540 area will provide greater mobility and travel options while also serving the existing Wake Tech Express Route. o Bus stop improvements along US 401 in front of Wake Tech’s campus would support the efficiency and viability of the existing Wake Tech Express Route and/or future local bus service. ® Local service utilizing Main Street (US 401), SE Judd Parkway, Lakestone Commons Avenue, and Broad Street. ® Support transit improvements at Wake Tech o This route passes through downtown and serves the densest existing residential areas in the Town, and garnered great interest at the public workshops. This service option will need further study before it can be advance for implementation. o Development within Judd Parkway is already beginning to boom, and is expected to continue with the completion of the loop. Additionally, based on the 2035 Community Vision Land Use Plan , this area largely serves town center residential, multifamily residential, and various office and commercial uses and will provide the density needed to support transit. Phase 2 Transit Elements ® Regional service from Fuquay-Varina to Holly Springs, Apex, and eventually Research Triangle Park (RTP) o Regional service would be best served by bus rapid transit geared at serving morning and evening work commutes. In the meantime, programs such as carpools or vanpools could help build ridership and encourage more residents to consider transit as a realistic alternative commute. ® Local service utilizing the full Judd Parkway buildout
