CRITERIA FOR APPOINTMENT, REAPPOINTMENT OR PROMOTION IN THE CLINICAL TRACK

The following criteria and metrics will be used to evaluate individuals in the areas of Clinical Service/Patient Care, Teaching, Research, and Administrative Service/Duties. The degree of achievement in each of the areas required for each academic rank are described below.

Clinical Service/Patient Care

Clinical expertise may be documented by the following:

Board certification and/or recertification is expected except in rare circumstances. Compliance with administrative requirements attended to clinical services. Evaluations from the candidate's peers, colleagues, students, patients, division chief and/or department director outlining the clinical and service capabilities of the individual. Patient referrals and requests for consultation also provide evidence of clinical competence/excellence. Leadership roles in local, regional, national and international professional organizations and

awards of merit add support to the application. Involvement in development of Clinical Service. Participation as consultant and or serving on an Advisory Panel to industry.

Teaching

A candidate's dedication to and excellence in teaching/mentoring can be demonstrated by:

1. Evidence of teaching competence and accomplishments including awards and honors. 2. Documentation of the types of teaching activities in which the faculty member participates is required, including: • Number of hours per week of resident and medical student supervision • Documentation of attendance at teaching conferences • Evidence of formal didactic activities such as lectures at institutional teaching conferences, departmental grand rounds and basic science lectures • Other teaching and consulting lectures throughout UC College of Medicine, the city and other institutions across the nation. 3. Evaluations from students, residents and peers are required. 4. Leadership and roles in educational programs and participation in the development of educational materials and programs. 5. Mentorship and advisory role for fellowships and other training programs e.g. graduate students and resident research rotation.
