The following are a selection of narrative descriptions recorded in NCEI for lightning events that occurred in Wake County: July 24, 1999 – A 24-year-old male was stepping from a boat to a dock when he was struck by lightning; he never regained consciousness and died the next day. July 13, 2005 – A smoldering tree which had been struck by lightning a few hours earlier fell, killing a firefighter. April 9, 2015 – A 28-year-old male was struck and killed by lightning in the parking lot of a shopping center. July 28, 2018 - A 41-year-old male was struck by lightning and was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. The victim subsequently passed away from his injuries.

March 2, 2023 - A home was reported on fire from a lightning strike along Walnut Cove Drive.

Twenty of the 27 incidents recorded by the NCEI included property damage, which was mostly recorded
