2.5 The 7 “D’s” Understanding the dynamics that create successful downtowns can often seem mysterious. Why does one place succeed and another does not? It can often feel like the answer is something intangible, because there appears to be no other logical explanation. Decades of working in a range of downtown environments has revealed a set of key attributes that contribute to creating successful places. When these 7 “D’s” combine with strong business owners, capable municipal staff and political leadership, both economic and social success follow.
