&/#3&'r#3*&'4 AFFORDABLE HOUSING The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) and the City of Cor- nwall want more affordable housing for Eastern Ontario. Delegations from the two areas met with Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Steve Clark on the issue during last week’s Assocation of Municipalities of Ontario gathering in Ottawa. Mayor Bernadette Clement of Cornwall noted that her city and the Town of Hawkesbury both lack affordable housing, which makes it difficult to attract and maintain the skilled labour force needed for their future economic development. – Gregg Chamberlain intersection of County Road 9 and Concession 17, near the Village of Saint-Isidore, is due for replacement. The United Counties of Prescott- Russell will get funding help from the federal and provincial government for the work, through a grant approval from the Investing in Canada Infras- tructure program. A workshop on Francophone immigration was held in Hawkesbury on Thursday, August 29, at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex, organized by the Centre de service à l’emploi de Prescott-Russell (CSEPR) and the Réseau de soutien à l’immigration francophone de l’Est de l’Ontario. En plus d’un atelier tenu l’après-midi du jeudi 29 aout, la Ville de Hawkesbury a aussi organisé un cinq à sept ce soir-là, pour informer les résidents de Hawkesbury au sujet du projet pilote de communauté francophone accueillante. La population a été conviée au Centre culturel Le Chenail pour lancer officiellement ce projet. Des employeurs, des élus, des gens du milieu communautaire et des citoyens sont venus en grand nombre aux deux activités.
