17. Thirst-creating Christians “Ye are the salt of the earth” (Matt 5:13). Salt creates a thirst. The peace and happiness of a Christian can create a real thirst for the same in the life of the ungodly. Many have testified that the godly life of some Christians had more to do with their conversion than any other thing. . . . “Lord, make me a thirst-creating Christian” should be the prayer of every be liever.—Hilland *H. Stewart. 18. Great Is His Love “In tips was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God Sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him” (1 John 4:9). O hands outstretched from God’s great heart to mine, 0 voice that tells me of the love di vine, My heart is glad and strong remem bering That I, who could not seek, and could not cling, Am sought, and found, by strength so firm and sure— Am held, and kept in bonds that must endure. Long since my weakness must have slipped away; Long since my footsteps must have gone astray; But Thou, O God—eternal, changeless, mine— Hast drawn my life, and bound it close to Thine, And wilt not break the chains so dear to me, Of that great love which makes ijie one with Thee. —Selected. 19. Continual Praise “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to his name” (Heb. 13:15). It is the duty of every Christian-to praise. If we cannot sing with our lips, we can sing and make melody in our hearts to the Lord. . . . Let us enter His presence, therefore, with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise. Angels who have not half as much cause for thanksgiving as we, continually sing the praise of God around the throne of God in heaven, and from-the church of God on earth there should rise to Him an everlast ing song of praise.—John Linton. 20. Maturity of Faith “We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, be cause that your faith groweth exceed ingly” . (2 Thess. 1:3). Because faith is a living thing it is bound to increase when put into

was not dependent upon any external Circumstances. Wherever he we n t , there was in him a competence, a fountain of supply, "a self-sufficing. This is the true secret of Christian contentment. We cannot make our own circumstances; we cannot keep away from our life the sickness, the pain, the sorrow, the misfortunes; yet as Christians we are meant to live in any and all experiences in un broken peace, in sweet restfulness of soUl.—J. R. Miller. Complete Ownership “Whose I am, and whom I serve” (Acts 27:23). Did you, 'my reader, ever realize the conception that you are absolutely Christ’s? . . . And not only are you the property of Christ, but all you are and have is His also. The master owns not only the slave, but all the proceeds of his toils, and all the personal or other property which he may acquire. . . . This is our rightful position with respect to Christ Paul Was proud to call himself the bond- slave of Jesus Christ.—F. B. Meyer. 15. 16. Greater Than These “Thou shalt see greater things than these” (John 1:50). Those who are willing to see shall see; it is because we shut our eyes that we become so sadly blind. We have seen much already. Great things and unsearchable has the Lord showed unto us for which we praise His name; but there are greater truths in His Word, greater depths of ex-' perience, greater heights of fellow ship, greater works of usefulness, greater discoveries of power and love, and wisdom. (Wiese we are yet to see it we are willing to believe our Lord. . . . Let us keep our eyes open toward spiritual objects, and expect to see more and more, till we behold the Great God Himself and never again lose the sight of Him. —Charles Haddon Spurgeon.
