Duration One year full-time Two years part-time Start date: September 2017

About this course LLM Intellectual Property Law will support you in gaining a high-level appreciation of the scope of intellectual property law, and the principles and rationale that underpin the law. This is reinforced by developing your awareness of a range of critiques which pertain to the sector, including those relating to the scope and applicability of the various rights. You’ll build knowledge by developing expertise in the application of these rights in key contexts; in particular, the international and European Union (EU) approaches to intellectual property rights, where the inherent tension between the creation of monopoly rights and the EU’s single market regulations are explored. You’ll also explore important contemporary issues, such as the control and exploitation of personal data, and the application of intellectual property law in the context of medical innovation.

What you’ll study You’ll study six taught modules, followed by a dissertation – an extended piece of academic work, independently researched and written. You’ll be supported in this work with one-to-one supervision from a tutor expert in your chosen field. Subject to academic suitability and the availability of an appropriately expert tutor, you can select your own area of study for the dissertation module of the course.
