pel no matter what the cost. These men believed something of infinite worth. They must tell it. Helps for the Children Three Special Friends of Jesus Luke 8:41, 42, 49-56; 9:28-36; Mark 14:32-42 Memory Verse: “ I have called you friends” (John 15:15). The Lord Jesus Christ had chosen twelve disciples to be with Him and have special training for the work that He had for them to do. Out of this
twelve, there were three who were es pecially dear to the Son of God; three who were allowed to go with Him when none of the other disciples were invited. These three were Peter, James and John. One of the times that these three were alone with their Lord was the day when He raised the daughter of Jairus from the dead. All of the other disciples had to remain outside while the Saviour performed this wonderful miracle which proved in a new way that He was truly the Son of God. Another time the Lord Jesus took these three disciples up into a mountain with Him to see Hirfi in a new way and to hear God’s voice say, “ This is my beloved Son: hear him.” The night that the Lord Jesus was betrayed by Judas, He took the three disciples apart from the others to be with Him while He prayed. How sor rowful their Lord was when He found the three sleeping rather than watching as He had commanded them to do! The training that these three men were given as they were constantly with the Lord Jesus was greatly used as they became leaders of the early church after the Saviour returned to his Father in Heaven. The Lord knew that they would need special training and special knowl edge of Him and His work as they did
the great work that God had planned for them in later years. Those who spend the most time read ing God’s Word and talking with Him in prayer are those whom He chooses to do His special work today. Unless we know Him well, we cannot be trusted to do His work well. Are you just one of the ordinary Christians who cannot be trusted to witness for your Lord and to do His work whenever He shall call? Or are you one who spends so much time with Him that He can trust you to always be ready to obey His voice and to faithfully serve Him? sown does not bear immediate fruit, we have the assurance that we shall “doubt less come again rejoicing bearing prec ious sheaves.” A new venture has been tried of re cent years in North Africa—that of the Bible Camps. In Tunisia we run one for about two months to which we admit children, mostly European, from eight to twelve. In Kabylia (Algeria) and in other areas the work is on similar lines. It is an arduous but blessed way to spend the hot summer months away up in the mountains telling children the J wonderful story of a living Saviour able to enter in and transform the worst of these young lives. From the first we have had blessed results, and testimony nights show how many of these young lives have been “ turned from the power of Satan unto God.” j Although we work specifically among I Moslems, we should not forget the vital work being done in many towns and j cities to reach the Europeans. The Lord has been pleased to win souls from atheism and Catholicism to Himself wherever this testimony is maintained. We pray that these centers might them selves be instruments in the hands of the Lord to hasten forward this work of evangelizing Moslems. The great need in these places is for Bible Schools to train and equip these on the spot to do the task. We do not know for how long missionaries will be there; the native Christians may have to carry on the task. Let no one be mistaken; the task is arduous. To finish it will require much prayer and sacrifice, but on the field we have already advanced; new stations, new dispensaries, and new camps have appeared within the last eighteen months. We are filled with expectancy that we are in the vanguard of a reso lute spiritual offensive into North A f rica. The unevangelized Moslems of North Africa, defiantly waving their crescent to the Christ of Calvary and to His followers, are a Macedonian call to come and enter upon a new and last crusade of love, prayers, and labors to the end that the reproach of Islam might be rolled away.
