“ I,” it also makes a cross, and we lose sight of the death notices. It is wonder ful to have Christ in a time of sorrow. They did not wait for this experience to make His acquaintance. Simon the leper prepared a feast and invited Jesus to it. Mary came and there anointed Jesus with a very costly per fume. That was a time of service and helpfulness to Him. Folding the third “ I” which has church services on it, we find that it, too, makes a cross. Mary had Christ in her service. Feb. 24, 1952 P ower or P ush Objects: An electric fan and a hand fan. Lesson: I brought two fans with me this morning. While they are both fans, they are entirely different. What is the difference between them? “ One is electric and the other has to be used by hand.” You are correct—one has power, and the other has to be pushed, or it will not accomplish the work that a fan is supposed to do. In looking at these fans, I am re minded of many who attend church. Some who call themselves Christians have to be pushed along in order to get them to do anything. Others have a power from above which makes them work willingly. We will give these fans names, be cause they remind us so much of real people. We will call the electric fan “ Fanny,” and the other “ Frona.” An electric fan to run must he con nected with electricity. Jesus Christ knew that His followers could not mani fest His power unless they had first received it. Just as the fan must he connected with the electric current, so those who want power must be in living touch with Christ. Jesus wanted His followers to know this, and He said, “ But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8). Peter, James and John were just hum ble fishermen, but Christ took them, and by His power made them great apostles for Him. When Christ wants someone to work for Him, I am sure that He takes the one who has power, rather than the one who has to be pushed, just as you and I would choose an electric fan in prefer ence to a hand fan. door to “HELL” opens, and they now see the black magnet, which has been pulling them all the way. Christ realized this truth, and He said, “ Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat” (Matt. 7:13). These two matches are like people who hear and heed the words of Christ. Coming to the crossroads, they accept Christ, and walk the strait and narrow way to Heaven. As they near the city, the door opens and they see the white magnet which has been drawing them upward. Each one needs to receive Christ, refuse the way of the world, resist Satan, and walk the strait and narrow way to Heaven. Objects: Three capital “ I’s” cut from newspaper. (Make them 18 inches high with the upright, the width of a col umn; and the crossbars, the width of three columns. Cut one from the mar riage announcements, one from the death notices, and the other from the church announcements. Thumbtack to the blackboard.) Lesson.: These are strange looking “ I’s.” At first they look very much alike but if you were to examine them closely, »you would find them entirely different. One is made of marriage an nouncements, and speaks to us of hap piness and sunshine. The second is made of death notices, and reminds us of heartbreak and shadows. The third is made of church announcements, refer ring to service and helpfulness, Feb. 17. 1952 H appiness , H eartbreak , H elpfulness

Three times during the life of Christ, He associated with Mary and Martha. He visited their home in Bethany, not to attend a wedding, but it was never theless a time of joy and sunshine. Mary sat at His feet, while Martha served. We will fold the first “ I” and see what happens. (Fold 3 inches from the top, and a sufficient distance from the bottom to cause the two crossbars to overlap, making a cross. Thumbtack in this position.) Mary and Martha were wise in inviting Christ into their home in a time of happiness. Christ came to the home of Mary and Martha during a season of sorrow and shadow. Their brother, Lazarus, was dead. Knowing their grief Jesus came to raise Lazarus from the dead, to comfort the sisters, and to bring glory to God. As we fold this
