1. Synthetic, i Bible study by books. Take each book of th e Bible and read it several tim es th ro u g h so as to get the scope of th e book. Find th e key exprès- sions, key verses, key chapter, its prac- tical ^teaching, its p resen tatio n of C hrist, - U sing a good reference Bible, look up th e get “T reasu ry of Scripture K now ledge,” a book w hich tre a ts every verse in th e Bible by parallel references. T here is no b etter comm entary on the Bible J h a n th e Bible itself. 3. Topical. Bible study by topics. A topical te x t book will be of- help. T his groups th e im p o rtan t Scripture passages topically. “W h at the Bible Teaches (Tor- rey) is a larg er and m ore thorough work of th is n atu re. For instance, tak e the su b ­ ject of “Ju stificatio n " and carefully read every passage containing th is word. 4. Microscopic. Bible study by concord­ ance. A C ruden’s Concordance is good, bu t the thorough stu d en t will w ant ‘S tro n g s E xhaustive C oncordance,” Take j great words of Scripture and look up th eir use in different passages. T his will suggest Bible outlines of a very practical nature. For instance, find th e “fear nots of the Bible, notin g th e different th in g s we are told we are no t to feat, etc. 5. Explanation. Bible study by comm en­ tary . R eading a chapter in your Bible, read the comm ents of some good Bible auth o rity w ith it. M atthew H enry’s C omm entary is practical for th e ordinary student. 6. C hapter Summary. Bible study for the purpose of analyzing each chapter. Special note books have been prepared for th is kind of w ork. One by th e au th o r of th is book­ let, is called “T hrough My Bible, C hapter by C hapter.” B lank space is provided for th e stu d en t to note th e principal charac­ ters, im p o rtan t ev en ts, prom ises, mem ory verses, spiritual lesson, how" C hrist is seen, etc. T his is a . very helpful m ethod. OUTWARD DIVISIONS Classification of Scripture for con­ venience in study has been the rule from earliest times. Luke 24:44 classifies the Old Testament as “Law, Prophets and Psalms.” Fol­ lowing are the structural divisions of the Bible: m arginal references.
