was not enough. He had no peace. He called the superintendent and arranged for an appointment. The man behind the big pol ished desk greeted Gene with a. friendly smile and extended his hand. “What can I do for you?” he asked. As Gene told his story, the man’s face dropped. “ I’m at your mercy,” Gene concluded, expect ing to spend some time in jail, which, he felt, he deserved. The superintendent was frank ly amazed. “ It really takes a man to come in and straighten out a thing like this,” he said. “Where are you working now?” He then proceeded to offer Gene a job if he should ever need one! Gene gave him a Gospel tract. “ Only Christ could enable me to come and see you,” Gene said. “ I’d
ON-THE-JOB WITNESS continued that Gene learned that God had used his confession to restore a backslidden Christian to fellow ship. The man, by then a deacon in the church, testified that he had gone into the storeroom where Gene had written out his confes sion and read it from the carbon Gene had used. It convicted him o f his own sin. Later when Gene invited him to an on-the-job Bible Study, the man knew Gene was not just playing church. He came, and soon got right with the Lord. Still the Holy Spirit continued to deal with Gene. “What about all that stuff you stole from your former employer?” the still, small voice asked. Gene put $25.00 in cash in an envelope and sent it with an unsigned note of explana tion to his former employer. It
