Province releases Sunshine salary lists

Municipalities and United Counties The Town of Hawkesbury again has the distinction of having some of the highest- paid full-time firefighters for a municipal- ity of its size in Ontario. The Sunshine List Report for the 2015 period noted that three full-time department members receivemore than $200,000 in annual salary : department captains Yves Berniquez, Daniel Gascon, andMichel Poulin each receive respectively $212,241.15, $224,657.06, and $200,539.06. The list also includes the names of sev- eral department heads for the Town of Hawkesbury, the United Counties and other local municipalities. Chief Administrator Stéphane Parisien, chief administrator for United Counties of Prescott-Russell, is listed with a salary of $193,261.70. School districts The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario and the Upper Canada District School Board each have more than 150 entries with Ian Carswell, principal of special projects, at the top for the UCDSB with a salary of $189,615.92 while William Gartlnad, the CDSBEO director of education, receives $213,327.80. Hospitals TheWinchester District Memorial Hospi- tal, which includes Russell Township in its service area, has 13 entries on the list with Cholly Bolland, chief executive officer, at the top of the list with a salary of $238,848. Hawkesbury &District General Hospital has 46 entries in the list with Mariëlle Heuvel- mans, who was vice-president for clinical programs for the hospital for most of the year, at the top of the list with a salary of $231,410.49. Other agencies The social service agency, Valoris for Chil- dren and Adults of Prescott-Russell has 18 entries in the 2015 list report. The annual spring ritual reveal is here again. The provincial government has re- leased its annual Sunshine List Report on public sector salaries. This year’s list fills six volumes detail- ing the names, titles, and salaries of every- one in the public eye who earns more than $100,000 a year. That includes provincial cabinet ministers, MPPs, Crown Corpora- tion executives, municipal mayors and their senior staff, doctors, nurses and technical staff at hospitals, principals and teachers at schools, colleges, and universities, and a long list of others fromorganizations which may benefit from public funding. The Public Salary Disclosure Act, brought in during the Progressive Conservative government of then-Premier Mike Harris, requires all organizations which receive public funding from the province to provide annual details of names, positions, salaries, and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more during the year. Since 1996, the Sunshine List Report has been both the boon of anyone interested in how taxpayer funds are spent on salaries for politicians and civil servants, and the bane of those who make the list each year. Some critics of the Sunshine List Report claim its salary parameters should be adjust- ed for inflation and that the real benchmark Burglar moves a large haul Russell County OPP seek help from the public in solving a home break-in in The Nation Mu- nicipality, in the middle of March, during which the thief drove off with a big haul. Loaded inside the vehicle were a snowblower, two brown leather sofas, and several long guns.The Dodge Caravan was later found abandoned and burnt in the city of Ottawa.
