Prerequisites Reaching a minimum of Working Towards Stage 4 in the Year 11 Algebra Prep or Statistics Prep course is required for direct entry. Description This course allows student progression to Level 3 Statistics, with a focus on developing critical thinking and analysis skills using real world context. Students will develop some core algebraic skills in their problem solving, however, it will not be to a level which will allow students to enter Level 3 Calculus.
Assessment This course contributes towards NCEA Level 2, with 4 of the 17 credits externally assessed by examination, and the remaining 13 credits internally assessed. The following Achievement Standards will be assessed: • AS 91264(4 credits – internal) Use statistical methods to make an inference. • AS 91265 (3 credits – internal) Level 2 Conduct an experiment to investigate a situation using statistical methods. OR AS91583 (4 credits – internal) Level 3 Conduct an experiment to investigate a situation using experimental design principles. • AS 91266 (2 credits – internal) – reading credits Evaluate a statistically based report • AS 91267 (4 credits – external) Apply probability methods in solving problems. • AS 91268 (2 credits – internal) Investigate a situation involving elements of chance using a simulation. • AS 91584 (4 credits – L3 external) – writing credits Evaluate statistically based reports
