Mathematics for Statistics

Prerequisites Reaching a minimum of Working Towards Stage 4 in the Year 11 Algebra Prep course is required for direct entry. Description This course is designed for students who completed the Algebra Prep course in Year 11. A successful completion of the course allows entry to either Calculus or Statistics in Year 13. Assessment This course contributes towards NCEA Level 2, with 13 of the 20 credits externally assessed by examination, and the remaining 7 credits internally assessed. The following Achievement Standards will be assessed: • AS 91257 (4 credits – internal) Apply graphical methods in solving problems. • AS 91259 (3 credits – internal) Apply trigonometric relationships in solving problems. • AS 91261 ( 4 credits – external) Apply algebraic methods in solving problems. • AS 91262 (5 crdits – external) Apply calculus methods in solving problems. • AS 91267 (4 credits – external) Apply probability methods in solving problems.

Prerequisites Reaching a minimum of Working Towards Stage 4 in the Year 11 Algebra Prep or Statistics Prep course is required for direct entry. Description This course allows student progression to Level 3 Statistics, with only little need to further develop algebraic skills. This course does not allow students to enter Level 3 Calculus. Assessment This course contributes towards NCEA Level 2, with 4 of the 17 credits externally assessed by examination, and the remaining 13 credits internally assessed. The following Achievement Standards will be assessed: • AS 91260 (2 credits – internal) Apply network methods in solving problems. • AS 91258 (2 credits – internal) Apply sequences and series in solving problems. • AS 91264(4 credits – internal) Use statistical methods to make an inference. • AS 91265 (3 credits – internal) Conduct an experiment to investigate a situation using statistical methods. • AS 91267 (4 credits – external) Apply probability methods in solving problems. • AS 91268 (2 credits – internal) Investigate a situation involving elements of chance using a simulation.
