The following Achievement Standards will be assessed:
• AS 91249 (4 credits – internal) Demonstrate understanding of narrative in media texts • AS91250 (3 credits - internal) Demonstrate understanding of representation in the media • AS 91251 (4 credits – external) Demonstrate understanding of an aspect of a media genre. • AS 91252 (4 credits – internal) Produce a design and plan for a developed media product using a range of conventions • AS 91253 (6 credits – internal) Complete a developed media product from a design and plan using a range of conventions.
Description This revolves around the key question – does society shape media or the other way around? By looking at a range of media texts, students will explore the interchange between societal norms and media. Students will also be taught conventions of filmmaking and be required to plan, produce, and edit a short film. Assessment This course contributes towards NCEA Level 2, with 4 of the 21 credits externally assessed by examination, and the remaining 17 credits internally assessed.
