Prerequisites Students considering this course should be able to perform on an instrument at the equivalent level of four years of individual or small group instrumental music lessons. Students should also have literacies in music technology, ear training, score reading, and music theory. It is highly recommended that students have successfully completed Prep Music. Students who commit to regular individual music lessons and perform in regional events such as the Rockquest and Chamber Music Contest typically flourish in this course.

Students will select from the following standards to create a course between 20-24 credits • 91270 (6 credits – internal) Perform two substantial pieces of music as a featured soloist. • 91271 (6 credits – internal) Compose two substantial pieces of music. • 91272 (4 credits – internal) Demonstrate ensemble skills by performing a substantial piece of music as a member of a group. • 91274 (3 credits – internal) Perform a substantial piece of music as a featured soloist on a second instrument. • 91277 (5 credits – external) Demonstrate understanding of two substantial contrasting music works - 6 credits (external) • 91278 (4 credits – internal) Investigate an aspect of New Zealand music. • 32303 (3 credits – internal) Apply knowledge of a music notation application (unit standard).

Description We welcome all genres of music and all

instruments in this course. All students in Level 2 Music study the disciplines of individual and group music performance, composition, ear training, theory, and musicology in a mixture of internal and external assessment opportunities. This practical course is performance based. Students have significant discretionary time to build up portfolios of compositions and performances. Student performances are closely aligned with the musical life of the College. Assessment This course contributes towards NCEA Level 2, and contains typically 20 to 24 credits.
