302 Physical Education: Recreation and Leadership

Prerequisites At least 14 credits in Year 12 Physical Education (Level 2 NCEA), or HoD approval. Exclusions Students can only take ONE Level 3 Physical Education course. Description The course offers a combination of both NCEA Achievement Standards and Unit Standards at Level 3. There are comprehensive studies in coaching, leadership, skill acquisition, risk management, and wellbeing through physical activity. All units provide an appropriate balance of practical and theoretical learning, with students required to relate the academic knowledge of each unit to a physical activity context. Students will have the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of their leadership abilities and the role of physical activity in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Assessment This course contributes towards NCEA Level 3 and University Entrance, with all 20 credits internally assessed. Of these, 15 credits are gained through Achievement Standards and 5 credits through Unit Standards. The following Achievement and Unit Standards will be assessed: • AS 91498 (4 credits – internal) Evaluate physical activity experiences to devise strategies for lifelong wellbeing. • AS 91501 (4 credits – internal) Demonstrate quality performance of a physical activity in an applied setting. • AS 91504 (3 credits – internal) – reading credits Analyse issues in safety management for outdoor activities to devise safety management strategies. • AS 91505 (4 credits – internal) – reading credits Examine contemporary leadership principles applied in physical activity contexts. • US 20673 (5 credits – internal) Demonstrate knowledge of injuries, injury prevention, and risks and hazards associated with sport or recreation.
